Die Entwicklung eines Europabewusstseins wird von der deutschen Bildungspolitik sowie von nationalen Beschlüssen wie dem KMK-Beschluss "Europa im Unterricht" als Grundlage für eine europäische Bürgergemeinschaft intensiv diskutiert und gefordert. Es stellt sich hierbei die Frage, inwieweit die konkreten Lehrpläne der jeweiligen Länder die Intention einer europäischen Bewusstseinsbildung aufnehmen und mit ihren länderspezifischen Besonderheiten verbinden. Die Studie untersuch dieses Spannungsfeld zwischen der Europapolitischen Idee einer europäischen Bewusstseinsbildung und deren curricularen Wirklichkeit anhand zweier europäischer Schulsysteme - dem tschechischen und dem sächsischen. Zum einen ermöglicht die Lehrplananalyse Aussagen zur Bedeutung von Europa, der Nation und der Region im Identitätsentwurf der Tschechischen Republik und des Freistaates Sachsen. Zum anderen kann der Beitrag zur europäischen Bewusstseinsvermittlung ideologiekritisch mit einem reflektierenden Europabewusstsein verglichen werden. Vor diesem Hintergrund verweisen die Ergebnisse auf Defizite in beiden Curricula und die damit verbundene Notwendigkeit, bereits auf der intentionalen Ebene der Lehrpläne eine konsistentere europäische Bewusstseinsentwicklung anzustreben.
