Cleveland Reads, the Greater Cleveland Literacy
Coalition, works beyond the boundaries of any one literacy
organization to strengthen and enhance literacy efforts in
Greater Cleveland by linking learners and volunteers to
programs; promoting best practices; and creating literacy
awareness.

A Great Success! The event was a wine and beer tasting event to support the
work of Cleveland Reads. The event featured delicious hors
d'oeuvres, a silent auction, spirits table raffle, and

Did You Know?
A child from a low-income family is read to an average of 25
hours before entering kindergarten, while a child from a
middle-income family is read to an average of 1,700 hours
68% of state prisoners do not have a high school diploma
Children in grades three through twelve learn the meanings of
about 3,000 new words a year - the majority of new words are
learned incidentally while reading books and other materials
