Book Description
Edgar Allan Poe has had a busy afterlife. The author of "The Raven" and "The Tell-Tale Heart" might have died back in 1849, but some claim that did not stop him from composing poetry for another four decades. Others say he still makes appearances in no fewer than five cities, and that his ghost is a regular at a couple of different taverns, one of which saves a seat for him. Like a character from one of his short stories, Poe refuses to stay buried. Author Christopher Semtner explores the ghost stories and hauntings associated with his life--from the supernatural legends that inspired his writing to the alleged paranormal activity inspired by those terror tales.

Acting. Is. Life. If you are going to be a student at The Morley Buck School of Serious Acting for Extraordinary Actors, you need to commit to your craft. But acting isn't all soliloquies and dramatic scenes; to be a true Actor (with a capital "A") you need to perfect moments such as being Startled Awake, Underwater Thinking, or being hit by a laser B.E.A.M. These are just some of the hyper-specific classes that Morley and his eccentric faculty teach at their unorthodox academy. Warning: This play may result in an increased enthusiasm for performing. Comedy One-act. 30-35 minutes 7-25 (female lead, flexible casting)

Book Description
Edgar Allan Poe On The Radio contains six spine tingling tales adapted from Edgar Allan Poe for production as staged readings or radio production. Few writers have matched Edgar Allan Poe's dark imagination and Poe On The Radio brings the thrills and chills of Poe to life on stage.Never Bet the Devil Your Head is a darkly funny story about using caution when you speak. The Cask of Amontillado tells the tale of ego fueled rage and a terrible revenge. Ligeia; the story of a man haunted and possessed by a lost love. The Masque of the Red Death finds the ultimate party crasher is Death. The Facts in the Case of M. Valdemar is creepy little story about hypnotism. The Tell-Tale Heart finds a faithful servant driven to madness and an unspeakable crime. When I was a kid, and didn't know any better, I started reading Poe's A The Tell-Tale Heart. While my classmates were reading about Dick running and Spot jumping I was reading stories by Mr. Poe about sealing your enemies behind walls, Death visiting a masked ball, the ghost of a black cat haunting his killer, a dead man kept alive by hypnotism, and poems about ravens, and lost love, and phantom dreams. When I started working in a senior center part of my job was planning entertainment. I had a background in theatre so staging performance was second nature to me. There was a scarcity of plays available that didn't need weeks of rehearsals and elaborate sets. A lot of work involved for one performance.Simple staged readings of play were just too boring.Radio plays seemed a perfect fit for what I wanted to do.Another love I had as a kid was listening to radio plays. There was an AM station that played the Orson Wells' War of the Worlds broadcast from October 30, 1938 on Halloween. On Christmas Eve they played a recording of Lionel Barrymore, Drew's uncle, starring as Scrooge in a 1948 performance of A Christmas Carol.Needing to find entertainment programs that could be done quickly and cheaply brought together my childhood love of Poe and radio plays. I started putting together scripts from the short fiction.Enjoy!
