To the ex tent which a discussion of political and economic aspects is deemed a prerequisite toward an intelligent under standing of the general religious situation, a summary treatment of these fields is presented as an introduction. The only valid reason why this article has been written by a person who has been but five years in this land is that I was so requested by people who perhaps should have known better.
