Book Description
Multilingual has played an important role in globalization era as a tool to drive competitiveness among people or countries over the world, such in economic, trade, policy, culture, and also education. It was defined ordinarily as the ability to speak or to communicate using three or more languages (McArthur, 1992: 673; Edwards, 1994: 33; Vildomec, 1963: 28; Kemp, 2009: 11). The benefits of being multilingual exhibit over monolinguals and not restricted to linguistic knowledge only but extend outside the area of language. The substantial long-lived cognitive, social, personal, academic, and professional benefits of enrichment multilingual context have been well documented (Cummins, 1981: 3; Cook, 2001; Diaz R, Klingler, 1991: 167; Lam, Wan Shun Eva and Rosario-Ramos, Enid, 2009: 171).

Book Description
Reaching out into the rural English teaching and learning environment led to compiling these chapters that exemplify the possibilities and achievements of teachers worldwide. Often with overly large classes, isolation, and few resources, English instruction leads to extrinsic success for their students with future educational, professional, and economic outcomes. In other instances, the fruits of teachers’ labor become intrinsic motivators for learners who value learning and critical thinking. English in the international curriculum has perceived value for developing human and social capital, as indicated in these authors’ personal and professional journeys. This volume was originally begun by Paul Chamness Iida, who sadly passed away in June 2021. The editors have done their best to complete this project as he envisioned and share this work in his honor. Contributors are: Mary Frances Agnello, Md. Al Amin, Naoko Araki, Monica A. Baker, Xingtan Cao, Mary Coady, Florent Domenach, Lee E. Book Description
This edited collection responds to a gap in the literature by presenting a much-needed examination of both the theoretical and practical aspects of teacher education for English as a lingua franca in Indonesia. Through a series of extended research-based and conceptual chapters written by experts in teaching English to speakers of other languages (TESOL) in and about Indonesia, this book offers an insight into Indonesia’s unique cultural, social and institutional contexts. The content focuses on four interrelated themes: the transition of perspective from English as a foreign language (EFL) to English as a lingua franca (ELF); the knowledge base of ELF pedagogy; teacher agency and identity in ELF; and innovations in teacher education for ELF. This book is highly relevant to English teachers, teacher educators and scholars worldwide aspiring to broaden their horizon and professionalism in the teaching of ELF.
