Book Description
This document presents techniques for family counselors to use in their existing family life education programs to incorporate parent-children communication into those programs. Twenty-four assignments, divided into junior and senior high age levels, are included as an adjunct to classroom programs which provide structured, at-home activities to increase parent-child communication. Each activity includes an introduction, a parent worksheet, and a teenager worksheet. The homework activities are designed to enhance the role of parents in the value formation and guidance of their teenagers by increasing family communication about sexuality. Assignments at the junior high level examine how well teenagers and parents know each other, better communication methods, messages about sex, sex roles, dilemmas, anatomy, music, and saying "no." Homework at the senior high level concentrates on different views, appreciating people, sex roles and dating, love, relationships, saying "no," parenting, anatomy and physiology, birth control, sexually transmitted diseases, and values and decisions. Book Description
Many parents fear the time when their beautiful happy children will become unmanageable adolescents continually engaging in risky or destructive behaviour. Unfortunately, this view of adolescents is the focus of the media, even though it relates to just a small proportion of young people. As the large amount of research we report shows, most adolescents are responsible young people who care about their families and crave the support of their parents. It is also true, however, as much research indicates, that the quality of the relationship parents have with their adolescents is crucial to the wellbeing of those young people. We discuss the need for parents to set reasonable limits on their adolescents and to expect appropriate behavior. We also show, on the basis of research, that children who have experienced positive, caring relationships with their parents are more likely than other adolescents to behave responsibly. In other words, behavior in adolescence does not ‘come out of nowhere’ but builds on earlier experiences in the family. Because of the large amount of research reported in this volume, we expect that it will be useful to practitioners from a range of professions that are likely to focus on adolescents: social workers, youth leaders, welfare workers, religious leaders, psychologists and psychiatrists and contribute to a better understanding of young people and their development, and the importance of families to that development.

Book Description
The young and adolescents are an epitome of change, hope and progress. The lives of adolescents are subject to global challenges faced by information and technological revolution, changing markets and globalization, and specific changes taking place in family dynamics, cultural traditions, religious beliefs and other socialization practices. This book on Adolescence Education assumes importance in view of the likely impact of acquired skills and behaviours during this period on an individual’s prospects in adulthood. This book is an attempt to understand the broader context in which adolescent lives are embedded. The theoretical perspective presents a multi-disciplinary view of adolescence that helps to understand the evolution of the concept of adolescence. Presenting an elaborate account of adolescence as experienced by young in India and highlighting the challenges that emerge as a result of dynamic changes in society, the attempt is made to identify the emerging issues and concerns that impact the lives of adolescents and provide a perspective to adolescence education. The historical account presented helps to build an understanding of the various socio-cultural forces that led to the emergence of the existing Adolescence Education Programme (AEP). The text presents the key features of the present AEP that are imperative for its successful implementation. The UN and civil society initiatives are mapped with a view to locate the characteristic features and thrust of various interventions. The text gives some gleaning insights from available evidences regarding execution of various existing adolescent programmes, and existential realities of adolescents’ lives. The book is intended for the undergraduate and postgraduate students of Education, Psychology and Sociology. Besides, the book is equally beneficial for the students opting for Psychology at their +2 level.
