Book Description
The significance of author Anna Katherine Green (1846-1935) upon American detective fiction cannot be underestimated. Not only was she among the first writers of the detective story in the United States but in her career she penned over 40 novels and short stories in the genre. She turned her literary attention from writing poetry to crime mysteries and published 'The Leavenworth Case' to great acclaim in 1878. Indeed this debut work is still regarded as an enduring classic. Furthermore, while most of us are familiar with the detectives of the New York Police Department as they have appeared in books, films and on television for decades, it was Green who was among the first to focus on the detectives of the NYPD as principal characters and, through her Detective Ebenezer Gryce offer him and the force to the public in series form. In the grand tradition of the sleuth Gryce has a number of 'sidekicks' including the nosey socialite, Amelia Butterworth-an embryonic Miss Marple. Green also wrote about another now familiar character type, the 'girl detective' in the form of debutante Violet Strange. These tales of the NYPD are set against the colourful world of the city of New York in the last two decades of the 19th century and this provides both the crimes and the characters that occupy these mysteries with an irresistible and unusual old world charm. This special Leonaur edition of the Detective Gryce casebooks comprises six substantial volumes and includes both novels and short stories featuring the famous criminal hunter. This final substantial volume includes the 'Behind Closed Doors' and 'A Matter of Millions.' We believe this six volume collection is the most complete collection of Gryce stories ever gathered together and is therefore an essential addition to the library of any collector of classic American crime fiction. Leonaur editions are newly typeset and are not facsimiles; each title is available in softcover and hardback with dustjacket; our hardbacks are cloth bound and feature gold foil lettering on their spines and fabric head and tail bands.

Anna Katharine Green (November 11, 1846 - April 11, 1935) was an American poet and novelist. She was one of the first writers of detective fiction in America and distinguished herself by writing well plotted, legally accurate stories. Green has been called "the mother of the detective novel".AN old crone stood on the top floor of one of New York's studio buildings. In her hand was a letter. Looking at it, she studied the superscription carefully, and then, with the same intentness, read the name on one of the doors before her. Hamilton Degraw was on the one, Hamilton Degraw was on the other. Satisfied, she gave a quick glance around her, thrust the letter under the door, and quickly fled.

Book Description
"The Little Boy from SoHo." Thirty Nine years ago on May 25, 1979, a Little Boy who lived in SoHo, New York barely age six was allowed to go to his school bus stop by himself, according to his mother. He never returned home after school and from all reports, he never got on the school bus that morning. The parents make their call at 6 PM to the police and at 10 PM the author and eleven of his fellow cops responded to search for the boy. They were unlucky in their search that night. The author searched hard for the boy because he had a nine month old daughter at home at the time. He didn't want to imagine what it would be like to lose her. There was no evidence as to how the boy went missing, everyone was questioned and re-questioned who lived in the neighborhood at the time. The case went frozen, not cold until a man in New Jersey made a statement to relatives. Everyone believed him, except for this book's author. He was tried and convicted and sentenced to do twenty five years to life in prison, for a crime this author believes he didn't commit. This is what prompted the author to write "The Little Boy from SoHo". He wants to get what he has uncovered out for people to read. His problem is that he needs to reference the boy's name which he doesn't want to do. He wants people to hear what he believes to be the truth in open court where he has been stymied from testifying. Robert McKenna (R.E. McKenna) joined the NYPD in 1974 but was laid off July 1975. He went from one job to another, and decided to get his college degree on weekends. Then he was hired to be Nelson A. Rockefeller's personal body guard after he left the Office of United States Vice-President. April of 1978, he was called back to the NYPD. He quickly made Sergeant and Lieutenant. He was called upon to clean up Washington Square Park as Lieutenant. In six months the Park was rid of its drug entrenched dealers. He made front page of the New York Times, something no other NYPD Lieutenant had achieved unless they had been arrested. The case has remained with him throughout all those years. He listened to the media accounts of both trials and to individual statements the little boy's mother made. He keeps shaking his head and asking himself, "why am I the only who sees it." You will see what the author sees after reading his book.

Book Description
A page-turning novel about the inner workings of the NYPD, based on the true story of a young officer's decades-long fight for respect in the male-dominated world. The Bronx, 1958. The Policewomen's Bureau isn’t respected within the Department, even when it handles cases the men can’t solve. Marie Carrara is a young police matron who wants to move beyond the grim routine of guarding female prisoners to become one of the few female detectives in the NYPD. Though she is a shy and naive, from a sheltered, immigrant background, Marie dives into the strange and terrifying world of big-city undercover work without hesitation, using her genuine innocence to deceive degenerates and drug dealers into thinking that she’s an easy target. As she begins to create tougher undercover characters, she discovers that they might be able to inspire her in her off-duty life as well. Despite the violence of her job, the sexism she faces daily, and a rocky-at-best marriage waiting for her at home, Marie is determined to make a name for herself within the NYPD and be the role model her young daughter deserves. With the support of Marie Cirile, the real-life inspiration for Marie Carrara, Edward Conlon adapts the true events of her memoir into a thrilling drama, a book only a best-selling author and decorated Bronx detective could have written.
