Book Description
Our eyes are instruments of light that register darkness as absence of light. We never see darkness. We don't know for certain what it is. Shadows moving under the moon and shade growing from the ground in sunlight give the illusion that darkness moves. Even night appears to slide around the planet, but darkness never moves, only is moved, controlled by the position of light. Our bodies, filled with darkness, move darkness, give darkness a self. These poems, tracking that movement, metaphorically and literally, search for the opposite of self, as light is the opposite of darkness.

Book Description
Sitting in Darkness explores how fiction of the Reconstruction and the New South intervenes in debates over black schools, citizen-building, Jim Crow discrimination, and U.S. foreign policy towards its territories and dependencies. The author urges a reexamination not only of the contents and formal innovations of New South literature but also its importance in U.S. literary history. Many rarely studied fiction authors (such as Ellwood Griest, Ellen Ingraham, George Marion McClellan, and Walter Hines Page) receive generous attention here, and well-known figures such as Albion Tourgee, Frances E. W. Harper, Sutton Griggs, George Washington Cable, Mark Twain, Thomas Dixon, Owen Wister, and W. E. B. Du Bois are illuminated in significant new ways. The book's readings seek to synthesize developments in literary and cultural studies, ranging through New Criticism, New Historicism, postcolonial studies, black studies, and "whiteness" studies. This volume posits and answers significant questions. In what ways did the "uplift" projects of Reconstruction-their ideals and their contradictions-affect U.S. colonial policies in the new territories after 1898? How can fiction that treated these historical changes help us understand them? What relevance does this period have for us in the present, during a moment of great literary innovation and strong debate over how well the most powerful country in the world uses its resources?

Book Description
“A luminous, moving and visual record of fleeting moments of connection.” —New York Times Book Review, Editors’ Choice A visionary work of radical empathy. Known for immersion journalism that is more immersed than most people are willing to go, and for a prose style that is somehow both fierce and soulful, Jeff Sharlet dives deep into the darkness around us and awaiting us. This work began when his father had a heart attack; two years later, Jeff, still in his forties, had a heart attack of his own. In the grip of writerly self-doubt, Jeff turned to images, taking snapshots and posting them on Instagram, writing short, true stories that bloomed into documentary. During those two years, he spent a lot of time on the road: meeting strangers working night shifts as he drove through the mountains to see his father; exploring the life and death of Charley Keunang, a once-aspiring actor shot by the police on LA’s Skid Row; documenting gay pride amidst the violent homophobia of Putin’s Russia; passing time with homeless teen addicts in Dublin; and accompanying a lonely woman, whose only friend was a houseplant, on shopping trips. Early readers have called this book “incantatory,” the voice “prophetic,” in “James Agee’s tradition of looking at the reality of American lives.” Defined by insomnia and late-night driving and the companionship of other darkness-dwellers—night bakers and last-call drinkers, frightened people and frightening people, the homeless, the lost (or merely disoriented), and other people on the margins—This Brilliant Darkness erases the boundaries between author, subject, and reader to ask: how do people live with suffering?

Book Description
This book, "Proof from the Light and Darkness" intends to prove many divine truths to many people. Many will accept it as proof while many will not. The following are seven of such truths this book will prove: 1) God is a living, eternal and a superior being. 2) The soul is a living and unique pattern of energy created by God and should not be confused with the spirit. 3) God is a union of two entities, which were the first souls to exist male and female therefore God can be him or her. 4) God comes to Earth periodically as Christ-incarnate in the body of a man and a woman. 5) Jesus of Nazareth and Mary of Bethany (the Magdalene) were the Christ's two thousand years ago. 6) Spencer John Atkinson and Pamela Theresa Atkinson are the new names and bodies of the same Christ, Jesus and Mary Magdalene. 7) Heaven is a real and eternally joyful place in another dimension of space. These seven topics and more is a result or a chain reaction from the main proof, God has given me; proof that I am the incarnate soul of Jesus of Nazareth and my wife and I are the Christ. Have no fear; this book is not just another book on religion, however, in order to prove Jesus' soul is back incarnate, the King James Bible must be used, not for its Christian theology or religious teachings, instead for its Divine Arrangements (blueprint, map of predictions or prophecies) concerning the return of Jesus Christ. It's time to stop the confusion caused by so many different beliefs by adding common sense, logic, and deductive reasoning, leading to proof that might be realized by all faiths.

Book Description
His Hiding Place is Darkness explores the uncertainties of faith and love in a pluralistic age. In keeping with his conviction that studying multiple religious traditions intensifies rather than attenuates religious devotion, Francis Clooney's latest work of comparative theology seeks a way beyond today's religious and interreligious uncertainty by pairing a fresh reading of the absence of the beloved in the Biblical Song of Songs with a pioneering study of the same theme in the Holy Word of Mouth (9th century CE), a classic of Hindu mystical poetry rarely studied in the West. Remarkably, the pairing of these texts is grounded not in a general theory of religion, but in an engagement with two unexpected sources: the theopoetics, theodramatics, and theology of the 20th-century Catholic theologian Hans Urs von Balthasar, and the intensely perceived and written poetry of Pulitzer Prize winner Jorie Graham. How we read and write on religious matters is transformed by this rare combination of voices in what is surely a unique and important contribution to comparative studies and religious hermeneutics.
