Book Description
Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a major cause of disability affecting about 1% of the population. Although much effort has been expended on research into the causes and cures of RA, little progress has been made. The focus of treatment in RA is on reducing the disabling consequences of the disease and controlling the symptoms. Understanding Rheumatoid Arthritis examines the nature of RA and its symptoms of pain and stiffness. The role of health care professionals and the individual's encounters with the doctor are important to understand as these experiences influence the individual's behaviour and understanding of their RA. This book will be an invaluable aid to the considerable number of people who suffer from rheumatoid arthritis, their families, carers and all health professionals involved in its treatment.

Book Description
A trusted guide and an invaluable resource, Living with Rheumatoid Arthritis offers practical advice for the millions of people coping with this painful disease. Now thoroughly revised and expanded, in a second edition, this book brings readers up to date with the latest methods of diagnosis and treatment. Building on their accessible explanation of the disease and its causes, the authors describe the essential components of care: medication, joint protection, physical activity, and good nutrition. They provide a wealth of new information on medications, including biologic response–modifiers, alternative and complementary approaches, and treatments for osteoporosis (which often accompanies rheumatoid arthritis), and they describe safe and effective ways to cope with pain, stiffness, and fatigue. The book helps readers understand their own emotional responses, as well as those of family and friends, and, because the disease often entails lifestyle changes, it provides practical advice for achieving as normal a life as possible. With the latest information on medication, nutrition, and resources (online and off), this volume is a complete and comprehensive guide to the management of a difficult disease.

Book Description
Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is an autoimmune disorder which affects the joints, and causes pain and stiffness. These symptoms typically worsen after rest. Generally, the joints of the cervical spine, hands and feet are affected. However, larger joints may also be involved. Over time, polyarthritis sets in, and as the disease progresses, the inflammatory activity of the body causes tendon erosion and tethering, and leads to the destruction of the joint surface. This leads to deformity and limits the range of movement. RA can also cause inflammation around the lungs and the heart, and low red blood cell count. People with RA are susceptible to atherosclerosis, myocardial infarction, stroke and lung fibrosis. The diagnosis is made on the basis of the presenting signs and symptoms, laboratory testing and X-ray results. There is no known strategy to prevent the disease from occurring or treat the condition when it has set in. Treatments are designed to slow disease progression and control symptoms, such as pain and swelling. This book aims to shed light on some of the unexplored aspects of rheumatoid arthritis and the recent researches in this condition. It provides comprehensive insights into the study of rheumatoid arthritis. This book, with its detailed analyses and data, will prove immensely beneficial to professionals and students involved in this area at various levels.

Book Description
100 years ago, we don’t understand electricity, so we think of the electric eel as an amazing fish. With understanding the electricity, we learn that the power of the eel is produced by muscle discharge. Similarly, if we don’t understand sound, we would not know the magic of bat flying; if we don’t understand magnetic field, we would not know the migration of whale and many other animal. Before the system theory came into being, our understanding of biology is still based on the basis of decomposition and reduction. If we’re stuck in reductionism, many complex autoimmune diseases, such as Rheumatoid arthritis (RA), will be difficult to understand. With the emergence of complex networks in 1989, understanding of biological networks has been enhanced. In this book we present the management strategy of RA from the perspective of complex network. RA is the most common chronic autoimmune joint disease. This book argues that the RA is firstly caused by chronic stress and stress factors include physical and psychological stress. Existing statistical techniques based on reductionism cannot discover many relevant disease risk factors and complex interaction relationship. The disease network model based on complex network is important for the analysis and treatment of RA disease.

Book Description
This brand new textbook of rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is an important addition to the Oxford Textbooks in Rheumatology series, and provides a comprehensive overview of both the scientific and clinical aspects of the disease. Divided into eight sections - from the history, diagnosis, and epidemiology of the disease, through the pathogenesis, clinical presentation, and assessment to treatments and management strategies, both drug- and non-drug based - each chapter is written by leading clinicians and scientists in the field to deliver a contemporary view of RA. During the past two decades there have been revolutionary changes in the understanding and management of rheumatoid arthritis, in particular the development of biological treatments. This has had wide-ranging effects on almost all aspects of treatment, from effectiveness and intensity to the nature and the cost. Providing a comprehensive account of the modern ideas about the disease, the Oxford Textbook of Rheumatoid Arthritis is a key new addition to the literature, with each chapter providing a detailed background, key recent advances, and areas of doubt and future developments. Featuring over 170 photographs, radiological images, and clinical charts to aid both diagnosis and illustrate the rationale behind key scientific studies, this new title will prove an indispensable resource for specialist rheumatologists, trainees in rheumatology, and other members of the multi-disciplinary team.
