Book Description
The data book represents an assembly and display of statistics that characterize transportation activity and presents data on other factors that influence transportation energy use. The purpose of this publication is to present a large amount of relevant data in an easily retrievable and usable format with the statistical data shown in the form of tables and graphs. Each of the major transportation modes (highway, air, rail, and pipeline) is treated in separate chapters or sections, although aggregate energy use and energy supply data for all modes are presented in Chap. 1. The highway mode, accounting for over 77% of total transportation energy consumption, is dealt with in Chap. 2. Topics in this chapter include vehicle stock characteristics, fuel efficiency, household vehicle ownership and use, fleet automobiles, buses, and trucks. Chap. 3 presents data on each of the nonhighway modes: air, water, pipeline, and rail, respectively. The final chapter, Chap. 4, summarizes historical trends in transportation activity.

Book Description
A sustainability expert goes beyond renewables, calling on us to combat the climate crisis with a new, low-energy way of life. Concerns over climate change and energy depletion are increasing exponentially. Mainstream solutions still assume that some miracle will cure our climate ills without requiring us to change our energy-intensive lifestyle. But switching from fossil fuels to renewable energy sources isn’t enough. We need a Plan C. In response to the converging crises of Peak Oil, climate change, and increasing inequity, sustainability expert Pat Murphy offers an inspiring vision of community and curtailment. Where cooperation replaces competition, we can deliberately reduce consumption of consumer goods. Plan C shows how each person's individual choices can dramatically reduce CO2 emissions, offering specific strategies in the areas of food, transportation, and housing.

Book Description
Transportation Statistics Annual Report is a summary of the state of the transportation system and its consequences, the quality of statistics used to characterize the transportation system, and planned efforts by the U.S. Department of Transportation's Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS) to improve the quality of the statistics. BTS was established by Congress to compile, analyze, and make accessible information on the nation's transportation system; to collect information on intermodal transportation and other related areas as needed; and to enhance the quality and effectiveness of the Department of Transportation's statistical programs through research, the development of guidelines, and the promotion of improvements in data acquisition and use.
