Book Description
Published in 1909 and long out of print, The Thousand and One Churches remains a seminal study of the postclassical monuments of Anatolia. Now a new generation of readers can learn of the extensive remains of the sprawling early Christian site known as Binbirkilise ("Thousand and One Churches," near Konya), excavated by Ramsay and Bell in 1907. The book provides extensive analysis of other early Christian and Byzantine sites across Anatolia that Bell visited at that time. Because many of the monuments have long since disappeared, this documentation is now invaluable, and Bell's extensive photographs provide a unique view of travel and archaeology more than a century ago. For this new edition more than 250 high-quality digitized images from the Gertrude Bell Archive at Newcastle University (UK) replace the original illustrations, and the editors' Foreword lays out the historical and cultural context for the undertaking. Ousterhout and Jackson recount the lives and careers of the two authors and the tale of their collaboration on the excavation and subsequent book. Publication of this volume was supported by a grant from the Joukowsky Family Foundation.

Book Description
Simon Jenkins has travelled the length and breadth of England to select his thousand best churches. Organised by county, each church is described - often with delightful asides - and given a star-rating from one to five. All of the county sections are prefaced by a map locating each church, and lavishly illustrated with colour photos from the Country Life archive. Jenkins contends that these churches house a gallery of vernacular art without equal in the world. Here, he brings that museum to public attention.

Book Description
There's a growing desire among believers to reach beyond the walls of their churches to impact communities for God. But when the average church size hovers around 150 members and the problems of even midsized cities seem insurmountable, how can we hope to make a difference? A New Kind of Big tells the inspiring story of how Perimeter Church in suburban Atlanta started a partnership called Unite! with other area churches in order to increase its reach in a community that desperately needed God's light and aid. This partnership has grown to a network of nearly 150 churches that are bringing kingdom transformation to Atlanta. For instance, on just one weekend in 2007, 6,000 volunteers from over 60 churches in metro Atlanta gathered to work on 250 service projects inside the ten-mile radius around Perimeter Church. Thirty welcome baskets were delivered to refugees, a dozen homes were repaired, a thousand Bibles were given away, 750 "encourage a teacher" gift bags were distributed. And that's not all: volunteers orchestrated 20 block parties in low-income apartment communities and 65 neighborhood food drives that collected 25,000 pounds of food. Chip Sweney shows Christian leaders how they too can discover the power of this "new kind of big" to pool their resources, energy, and time to minister to their communities, no matter how long or short their membership rolls.

Book Description
What does an atheist think about church? Jim Henderson decided that the best way to find out was to ask! So he recruited an atheist—Matt Casper—to visit twelve leading churches with him and give the “first impression” perspective of a non-believer. Week after week, this spiritual odd couple attended services at churches all over the country and documented their experiences at and reactions to each one. Along the way, they found the real value of their journey in the open and authentic friendship that developed as they talked, questioned, joked, and—most important—listened. Follow along with Jim and Casper on their visits, and eavesdrop as they discuss what they found. Their articulate, sometimes humorous, and always insightful dialogue offers Christians a new view of an environment where we’ve become overly comfortable: the church.

Book Description
Since 2005, we've seen an unprecedented number of church planters called by God to serve in the Canadian province of Quebec, as well as a new openness to the gospel among the people. This is hugely significant because Quebec and the Quebecois people represent the largest unreached people group in North America. (For comparison, consider that there are more Christians per-capita in Egypt than in Quebec.) Quebec's unique religious and cultural history provide both daunting challenges and exciting opportunities for the spread of the gospel. Building on the legacy of the twentieth century missionaries who first brought the gospel into Quebec, our twenty-first century movement seeks to continue this work by seeing Quebec completely saturated and transformed by the good news of Jesus' finished work through community evangelism, leadership development, missional church planting, and church revitalization. -- "I mention the Stegners when I talk to people about what living a healthy family life on mission looks like. And this health has continuously overflowed into our missional communities, churches, church plants, and replants. Brian and Severine have grown to become a solid pastoral presence for all key-leaders within our movement. His executive coordination is an important element for the significant growth we are experiencing. Having him full time is a game changer for what God is doing in Quebec." - Norton Lages, Director, Mission Quebec -- "Brian has an incredible ability to make vision come to life - and often better than it looked in the plans. His seemingly inexhaustible reserves of creativity and knowledge have significantly helped move things forward in Quebec and Canada. His gift mix is irreplaceable and unique. Can't imagine not working with him!" - Dwight Bernier, Network Director, Acts 29 Canada
