Book Description
The Story of the Treasure Seekers (1899) is a children's novel by English writer Edith Nesbit. The first book in Nesbit's beloved Bastable trilogy--which also includes The Wouldbegoods (1901) and The New Treasure Seekers (1904)--The Story of the Treasure Seekers is a story of family, adventure, and mystery for children and adults alike. The Bastable siblings--Dora, Oswald, Dicky, Alice, Noel, and Horace Octavius--are clever and curious children who live with their widowed father. When their mother died, their father became ill and lost his successful business, forcing the family to live modestly. Inspired by stories of buried gold and jewels--and hoping to help their struggling father--the Bastable children decide to go searching for treasure. Their adventure soon takes them to London, where they abandon digging for the allure of paying work. The Bastables come up with several schemes to make money, including writing poetry, banditry, and starting a newspaper, in the process discovering the power of imagination and the true value of home. The Story of the Treasure Seekers is a masterpiece of children's fiction from Edith Nesbit, one of the twentieth century's children's authors. Originally published as a series of stories in several different periodicals, The Story of the Treasure Seekers was Nesbit's first novel for children. It would go on to influence both Arthur Ransome and C.S. Lewis, and is a favorite of J.K. Rowling's. With a beautifully designed cover and professionally typeset manuscript, this edition of Edith Nesbit's The Story of the Treasure Seekers is a classic of English children's literature reimagined for modern readers.

Book Description
This is the story of the six Bastable children: Dora, Oswald, Dicky, Alice, Noël and little Horace Octavius, known as H. O. Due to their mother tragically passing away and their father’s business partner running away with the money, the ancient and most noble House of Bastable, as the children like to call it, has fallen. In order to restore their family fortune the resourceful siblings go on a hunt for treasure; but whether they dig for gold in the garden, or try to open up a sherry business, their treasure-hunting always ends up getting them in trouble. The Story of the Treasure Seekers was the first novel for children written by Edith Nesbit, and today it is one of her most well-known. The stories of the Bastable children were first published between 1894 and 1899 in a variety of periodicals. For the one-volume publication in 1899 the order of the stories was changed, and several of the stories underwent extensive rewriting. This and her later novels inspired several later writers of English children’s literature, amongst them C. S. Lewis, who references the Bastable children in The Magician’s Nephew. The Story of the Treasure Seekers spawned two sequels, The Wouldbegoods in 1901 and New Treasure Seekers in 1904.

Book Description
“The House of Arden” is a 1908 children's novel written by English poet and author Edith Nesbit. The story revolves around Edred and Elfrida Arden, two children from a poor background who inherit an old, run-down castle and attempt to track down their lost family fortunes which would enable them to restore it to its former glory. Edith Nesbit (1858 – 1924) was an English poet and author. She is perhaps best remembered for her children's literature, publishing more than 60 such books under the name E. Nesbit. She was also a political activist and co-founded the Fabian Society, which had a significant influence on the Labour Party and British politics in general. Other notable works by this author include: “The Prophet's Mantle” (1885), “Something Wrong” (1886), and “The Marden Mystery” (1896). Many vintage books such as this are becoming increasingly scarce and expensive. It is with this in mind that we are republishing this volume now in an affordable, modern, high-quality edition complete with a specially-commissioned new biography of the author.
