Earle Christmas Grafton Page (1880–1961) – surgeon, Country Party leader, treasurer and prime minister – was perhaps the most extraordinary visionary to hold high public office in twentieth-century Australia. They are employed simply as the best or the most appro priate phrases to describe or to account for those exceptionally brilliant acts or deeds in the lives of some great Ameri cans, as set forth in the following pages, and the writer trusts that they will be so accepted and understood by the reader.
