Book Description
The Mother of The Saviour: And Our Interior Life by Reverend Reginald Garrigou-Lagrange O.P.: Publisher: A Kindle Edition is also available. This Paperback is the ideal small size of 5" x 8". This is not a devotional book in the ordinary sense of the term: it is too openly theological for that. On the other hand, it is no mere theological treatise: the author's aim has been to inflame hearts no less than to enlighten minds. The result is a work which demands more intellectual application than many others on Our Lady. But, by way of compensation, it touches the will at a deeper and more spiritual level than would a work of less rich content. Book Description
From the Translator's PrefaceA theologian of the eminence of Father Garrigou-Lagrange does not himself need to be introduced to the public, This present work of his would, however, seem to invite a few words of explanation. It is not a devotional book in the ordinary sense of the term: it is too openly theological for that. The author's insistence—a fully justified one—on the doctrinal side of his subject has, of course, left little room for mere literary ornament. But this lack, if lack it be, will not turn away any reader who is sincerely desirous to know Our Lady better.

Book Description
In Mary’s Bodily Assumption, Matthew Levering presents a contemporary explanation and defense of the Catholic doctrine of Mary’s bodily Assumption. He asks: How does the Church justify a doctrine that does not have explicit biblical or first-century historical evidence to support it? With the goal of exploring this question more deeply, he divides his discussion into two sections, one historical and the other systematic. Levering’s historical section aims to retrieve the rich Mariological doctrine of the mid-twentieth century. He introduces the development of Mariology in Catholic Magisterial documents, focusing on Pope Pius XII’s encyclical Munificentissimus Deus of 1950, in which the bodily Assumption of Mary was dogmatically defined, and two later Magisterial documents, Vatican II’s Lumen Gentium and Pope John Paul II’s Redemptoris Mater. Levering addresses the work of the neo-scholastic theologians Joseph Duhr, Aloïs Janssens, and Réginald Garrigou-Lagrange before turning to the great theologians of the nouvelle théologie—Karl Rahner, Hans Urs von Balthasar, Louis Bouyer, Joseph Ratzinger—and their emphasis on biblical typology. Using John Henry Newman as a guide, Levering organizes his systematic section by the three pillars of the doctrine on which Mary’s Assumption rests: biblical typology, the Church as authoritative interpreter of divine revelation under the guidance of the Holy Spirit, and the fittingness of Mary’s Assumption in relation to the other mysteries of faith. Levering’s ecumenical contribution is a significant engagement with Protestant biblical scholars and theologians; it is also a reclamation of Mariology as a central topic in Catholic theology.

Book Description
"Mary manifests herself as Mother of Mercy by being 'Health of the sick, Refuge of sinners, Comforter of the afflicted, Help of Christians.' The gradation of titles here is very beautiful. . . . Among creatures no one is higher than Mary, and yet no one is more approachable, more helpful, and more gentle." -- Fr. Réginald Garrigou-Lagrange, O.P. The great Marian pope St. John Paul II was mentored by Fr. Réginald Garrigou-Lagrange in writing his doctoral thesis. In these powerful pages, Fr. Garrigou-Lagrange will likewise guide you on a journey to greater intimacy with our Lord, through Our Lady, leading you from mere affective devotion driven by the intellect to a deep fervor grounded in spiritual progress. In part 1, "The Divine Maternity and the Plenitude of Grace," the Blessed Virgin Mary's dignity as God's greatest creature, surpassing all the angels, is rigorously defended from the vantage point of her divine maternity, encompassing Marian doctrines from the Immaculate Conception to the Assumption. Part 2, "Mary, Mother of All Men: Her Universal Mediation and Our Interior Life," describes Mother Mary's mediation for us with Christ and her sufferings as co-redemptrix. With simplicity and richness, Fr. Garrigou-Lagrange explains how, in each of her charitable acts, Mary was receptive to God's grace, from the daily kiss on the forehead of the child Jesus to her co-suffering in Christ's Passion. Fr. Garrigou-Lagrange reveals the heart of the Blessed Mother's interior life and shows how it is a model for your own. In this volume, you will also find: - Two preeminent truths about the Mother of Christ - An intellectual basis for your devotion to Our Lady, according to St. Thomas Aquinas - Three titles that tradition attributes to the Blessed Virgin (You will be surprised!) - Penetrating reflections on key points in Mary's life in which she received great grace - Meditations on the significance of the Rosary, Marian consecration, and other devotions - A chapter on St. Joseph's exceptional mission and sanctity Moreover, you will come to understand how Mary possesses "supplicant omnipotence" -- she gets what she asks for! -- and how she intercedes for all who ask for her protection on the road to Heaven. As you grow in docility as she did, you will grow in your willingness to offer your littlest acts for God's glory. A reviewer wrote: "I highly recommend this book to anybody interested in knowing and loving the Mother of God more. Far from being a dry work of theology, this work will move your heart to praise God for the gifts He bestowed on His Mother and will make you seek to imitate her more closely."
