Book Description
A strong Egyptian presence and governance of 13th and 12th centuries B.C. Palestine has since long become clear from both textual and archaeological evidence. How this Egyptianization came about in Ramesside Palestine forms the focus of the present study. Carolyn Higginbotham convincingly attends to internal factors affecting the region’s cultural and political development. Two models are carefully considered. The prevailing theory, that Egyptian policy shifted from economic and political domination to military occupation, is contrasted with a new, convincing model, elite emulation, derived from modern core-periphery studies. The author’s conclusion is that Egyptian policy remained largely unchanged, and that the increased Egyptianization of the material culture represents voluntary adoption of the overpowering Egyptian culture by the Palestinian ruling class. The appendices are especially important for scholars interested in ancient international connections in Palestine; they catalogue all Egyptian and Egyptian-style material from LB IIB - Iron 1A Palestine.

Book Description
Palestine in the Egyptian Press follows the evolution of the press institution in modern Egypt, as well as of the prominent role that the Palestine question performed in its rise to political prominence. Through the lens of the press, author Ghada Hashem Talhami studies the development of democracy under authoritarian rule, as successive Egyptian regimes struggled to curb and contain the power of the fourth estate. The Palestine question begins to impinge on Egypt's consciousness after World War I, largely due to the manifest pro-Zionist sentiments of a segment of the Jewish population. At the same time, efforts by rising Islamic groups and pan-Arabist circles to engage in the national identity debate quickly seize control of the Palestine question as the most vulnerable area of Egypt's security, identity, and borders. Following the evolution of the press under Nasser, Sadat, and Mubarak, Palestine in the Egyptian Press explores the restrictions and freedoms allowed to the media. There is no better reference to explain the press syndicate's rise to prominence, or the success of generations of journalists in establishing Arabic as the formal language of Egypt, or the Palestine issue as the centerpiece of Egypt's pan-Arab policies. Book Description
First published in 2005. Written by one of the most eminent and respected Egyptologists ever known, this remarkable work is at the same time original research in a previously neglected area of survey, an account of an archaeological survey and its methods of the time and a fascinating and illuminating discourse on the policies of the region. It is certain that no work or writer has addressed the issues of Egyptian ambition and the events of which took place in Palestine. Palestine, a fought over land even at that time, inhabited by various tribal groups as it was, its history and its archaeological remains are discussed Ion the spot' so to speak, both in relation to the finds of the expeditions, known historical events and accounts taken from the Bible particularly the accounts of Exodus.

Book Description
Major scholars in North America, Europe, and the Middle East provide a variety of fresh studies on the history, literature, religion, and art of Egypt, Israel, Phoenicia, and the rest of the ancient Mediterranean world. The first part of the book features chapters on ancient Egyptian inscriptions, art, history, and religion. The second part deals with biblical studies, the histories of ancient Israel, Canaan, and the relations among societies in the ancient Near East. The periods covered in the volume range from Old Kingdom Egypt to the late antique era. Most of the art historical and archaeological essays on ancient Egypt, Israel, and Canaan deal with previously unpublished finds. Many of the essays dealing with literary and historical issues explore the relations among ancient cultures, explaining the development of and interest in international trade, warfare, and travel. The book is amply illustrated with photos, drawings, graphs, and tables. "Egypt, Israel, and the Ancient Mediterranean World is a rich and wide-ranging collection of papers that well honors the distinguished scholar to whom it was dedicated. It also has much to offer all scholars interested in political and cultural interactions in the ancient eastern Mediterranean basin." Stanley M. Burstein, California State University, Los Angeles

Book Description
These essays describe with unusual immediacy the unfolding obstacles to peace between Egypt and Israel, with a central focus on the Palestine issue. In one especially powerful chapter, the writings of an Arab woman from Nazareth eloquently testify to the difficulties of life for the Palestinians under Israeli rule. Other chapters treat Israeli policies in the West Bank and Gaza, the impact of Israeli politics on the peace issue, and the Palestinians' response to the occupation.
