Book Description
It is planned to introduce a new combat uniform material of lighter weight than the current all cotton uniform. This report describes the selection of an accelerated wear course for assessing the relative durability of combat uniforms. The durability of a range of candidate cotton/polyester uniform fabrics is compared with that of the existing uniform. The durability of the lighter weight, blend uniforms was as good as that of the inservice garments. The analysis of a subjective comfort questionnaire is discussed, and it is concluded that the respondents can discriminate between factors relating to comfort and expected durability. Under the test conditions (cool, wet) the cotton/polyester fabrics were rated as significantly more comfortable than the all cotton uniforms. (Author).

The Australian Army Uniform and the Government Clothing Factory
Author: Anneke van Mosseveld
Publisher: Springer
ISBN: 3319714252
Category : History
Languages : en
Pages : 269
Book Description
This book reveals the business history of the Australian Government Clothing Factory as it introduced innovative changes in the production and design of the Australian Army uniform during the twentieth century. While adopting a Schumpeterian interpretation of the concept of innovation, Anneke van Mosseveld traces the driving forces behind innovation and delivers a comprehensive explanation of the resulting changes in the combat uniform. Using an array of archival sources, this book displays details of extensive collaborations between the factory, the Army and scientists in the development of camouflage patterns and military textiles. It uncovers a system of intellectual property management to protect the designs of the uniform, and delivers new insights into the wider economic influences and industry linkages of the Government owned factory.

Book Description
The CRAMS survey conducted in 1980 provided basic data on the size and shape of male ARA personnel. The survey was intended to provide information on which to base the size rolls and tariffs for male uniforms. To assist in the design of size rolls for uniform items, the measurements of 21341 men have been assembled in a computer data bank. From the results of the questionnaire relating to the male uniform, it was indicated that the general style of the trousers defined by Australian Army Specification (AS) 5363 was acceptable to members of the Army. It was therefore decided to develop a size roll for dress trousers based on the style parameters of the current men's wool/polyester trouser, AS 5363.
