Book Description
Excerpt from American Bee Journal, Vol. 9: July, 1873 How much interest was felt in relation to the cause which occasioned the disastrous losses of our bees in the winter of 1871 - 2, and yet but few, if any of us, were prepared for the fact that, the winter which has just closed, (that of '72 and would far surpass the previous one in point of fatality, even, in many instances, devastating entire apiaries; and I greatly regret to state that, in a radius of fifty miles from the point at which I write, that from one-half to two-thirds of our colonies have perished. I feared last fall that, in the absence of proper management, this loss would occur, and so I predicted. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book Description
Excerpt from The American Bee Journal, Vol. 8: 1872-73 The extracted honey we sent to Philadelphia. Our bees did not do much 011 white clover, but when basswood came in bloom (july 15th), the bees kept us busy emptying out honey. \v e were fairly swimming in honey for about two weeks. We 'never saw bees gather honey faster than they did from basswood blossoms. Good swarms would fill their hives in two days when they had empty comb. Now we see the necessity of urging the bee keepers to cultivate the basswood. There is a great quantity of small basswood trees in the woods in this section which we can get to trans plant. Had it not been for basswood. We would not have got any profit from our bees. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
