Book Description
It takes a particular blend of curiosity and courage to dive into a culture foreign to your own. In Across Japan, photographer Eren Sarigul takes us on a wide-eyed journey through the beautiful country that has fascinated him since he was a boy in south London. Born into a family with deep roots in Istanbul, Eren grew up bilingual and frequently visited relatives in Turkey. But it was the Japanese exchange students his family hosted that planted a dream of one day travelling much farther east. Across Japan documents this young photographer's travels from the streets of Tokyo, to the enchanted forests of Yakushima, to the mountains of Nagano and back again. His lifelong love affair with Japan's geography, its cultures, and its people are evident on every page.

Book Description
This volume presents a comprehensive, up to date and practical approach to creating an ERAS program for GI surgery. The first sections review the evidence underlying individual elements of ERAS, including evidence from laparoscopic procedures when available or pointing to evidence gaps where more research is required. These are written by experts in the field, including surgeons, anesthesiologists, nurses, and physiotherapists. The format is in the style of a narrative review, with narrative evidence review, and concluding with a table with “take home messages” and 3-5 key references for readers interested in more depth in each topic. Each chapter also addresses management of common complications and patient selection or exceptions. Subsequent chapters address practical concerns, including creation of a pathway team, project management and engaging administration. Experts contribute real-world examples of their pathways for a variety of procedures, including colorectal surgery, bariatric surgery, upper GI and hepatobiliary surgery, enabling the user to have a starting point for creating their own programs. The SAGES Manual of Enhanced Recovery Programs for Gastrointestinal Surgery will be of great value to fully trained surgeons, anesthesiologists, nurses and administrators interested in initiating an ERAS program.

Book Description
Covering both acute post-operative and chronic complications following total hip arthroplasty (THA), this comprehensive clinical guide provides diagnostic and management strategies and techniques for orthopedic surgeons at every level. Utilizing a case-based approach, each condition is discussed in terms of its epidemiology, risk factors, and preventative measures, with a brief literature review providing evidence for the diagnosis and treatment each author selects. The first section covers acute post-operative complications, discussing peripheral nerve and vascular injuries, periprosthetic fractures and infections as well as thromboembolic events. The second section covers chronic complications including the more common complications such as recurrent dislocation and infection as well as rarer complications such as pelvic discontinuity. Aimed at the most efficient management of these often complicated conditions, Complications after Primary Total Hip Arthroplasty is a practical resource for orthopedic surgeons, residents and fellows working with patients having undergone hip replacement surgery.

Book Description
Pemphigus and pemphigoid diseases are a heterogenous group of autoimmune blistering disorders (AIBD) characterized by tissue-bound and circulating autoantibodies against structural proteins of the desmosome and basement membrane zone of the skin and orifice-close mucosal tissues. While strong evidence has been provided that autoantibodies in AIBD are pathogenic, the exact mechanisms of how blister formation is mediated is very different between pemphigus and pemphigoid disorders and yet incompletely understood. Additionally, target antigens for the major AIBDs have already been identified on the molecular level. In contrast, diagnostic assays are not yet available for all autoantibody specificities and isotypes. Treatment also greatly relies on long-term unspecific immunosuppressants, although rituximab has greatly improved the outcome for patients with moderate and severe pemphigus. There is currently still a need to identify key pathophysiological mediators and pathways for the development of more specific, safer, and more effective treatment options.

In many cases, there are several photographs of the same location, shot at different times of the day, in different seasons, with different tones. The images here - digitally processed, filtered, toned, de-saturated, sharpened - showcase distinct styles and compelling points of view, with a very urban sensibility. Showcasing old world tradition alongside the modernism of contemporary Hong Kong, the images here reveal distinctive and dramatic visions of one of the world's most multi-faceted cities.
