Book Description
This volume has a strong focus on homo-oligomerization, which is surprisingly common. However, protein function is so often linked to both homo- and hetero-oligomerization and many heterologous interactions likely evolved from homologous interaction, so this volume also covers many aspects of hetero-oligomerization.

Book Description
This book provides an excellent introduction to the fundamentals of oligomer chemistry. Each section describes the synthesis, separation, physico-chemical characterization, and present and future applications of individual classes of oligomers organized according to the chemical structure of the main chain. In addition, this book features up-to-date references from both journals and patents and an extensive appendix covering synthesis and characterization methods of oligomeric derivatives. Synthesis and Characterization of Oligomers is a broad, state-of-the-art survey and will be useful not only for students and professionals working with oligomers, but also chemists who are new to the field.

Book Description
In biological systems, molecules hierarchically form ordered assemblies and macroscopic substances, as exemplified by the assembly of proteins. The development of such systems using oligomeric macromolecules obtained by organic synthesis can provide insights into biological phenomena and will lead to the creation of new materials. In this regard, synthetic double helix molecules are attractive subjects of study because they have an important structural motif that appears widely in nature and can exhibit dynamic structural change. This thesis describes an unprecedented bottom-up approach using synthetic ethynylhelicene oligomers, which form dynamic double helices in organic media. Oligomer synthesis, homo- and hetero-double helix formation, and higher assembly formation due to intercomplex interactions are documented. The hierarchical assembly formation is a cogent reminder of the assembly of biological proteins that create living creatures. Also notable here is the demonstration of a methodology of providing diverse hetero-double helices and their higher assemblies by changing the combination of oligomers, which can be another advantage of this synthetic system.

Book Description
The Hidden World of Protein Aggregation, Volume 206 provides a comprehensive exploration of protein aggregation, uncovering the factors behind the formation of amorphous aggregates and ordered structures called amyloid fibrils. It delves into the advantages and disadvantages of protein aggregates, addressing topics such as cytotoxicity and disorders linked to misfolding. Specific chapters in this release include Protein Aggregation: An Overview, Pathways of Amyloid Fibril Formation and Aggregation, Factors Influencing Amyloid Fibril Formation, Morphological Features and Types of Aggregated Structures, Each big journey starts with a first step: Importance of Oligomerization, Liquid-Liquid Phase Separation as Triggering Factor of Fibril Formation, and more. Additional sections cover Experimental Techniques for Detecting and Evaluating the Amyloid Fibrils, Prediction of Protein Aggregation, Amyloid Fibril Cytotoxicity and Associated Disorders, Inhibitors of Amyloid Fibril Formation, Therapeutic Approaches in Proteinopathies, Functional Amyloids, Biotechnological Applications of Amyloid Fibrils, and The Hidden World of Protein Aggregation. Provides an introduction to the folding of protein and associated conditions leading to aggregation and linked pathology Discusses structural biology and computational methodologies for analysis of protein (mis)folding and aggregation Describes functional amyloids and their biotechnological applications
