Book Description
Boxing is a highly controversial sport for a neurologist' involvement because every punch and kick to the head is thrown with the intention of winning by knocking the opponent out, or resulting in a concussion. Nearly all medical associations have made calls to ban boxing. Ringside physicians are entrusted with the task of protecting the health and safety of combat sports (boxing and mixed martial arts (MMA) athletes. Ringside physicians come from various disciplines of medicine such as, primary care, internal medicine, orthopaedics, sports medicine, and otolaryngology. There are only a handful of neurologists who serve as ringside physicians. Many neurologists feel it is unethical to support boxing as a ringside physician since boxing is so harmful to the brain. While medical associations and physicians, including neurologists, may not support boxing, their presence at the ringside helps to make these sports safer through protecting the health and safety of the combat sports athlete.

Book Description
This first nationwide study of boxing regulations in the United States offers an historical overview of the subject, from the earliest attempts at regulating the sport to present-day legislation that may create a national boxing commission. It examines the disparity of regulations among states, as well as the reasons for some of these differences. The work features interviews with boxing officials, analysts and boxers, and includes the results of a national survey of state athletic commission personnel. In-depth case studies of boxing regulations in Nevada and Kansas provide a close look at different states' methods, and Argentina's centralized system of regulation is presented as a comparison to the U.S. approach.

Book Description
In 2016, Booklist observed, “Thomas Hauser is a treasure. Whatever he writes is worth reading. Boxing is blessed that he has focused so much of his career on the sweet science.” There Will Always Be Boxing continues this tradition of excellence. A poignant look at Muhammad Ali—whose life was celebrated throughout the world following his death on June 3, 2016—highlights this collection of Hauser’s work. The year’s biggest fights are, as always, put in perspective. And once again, Hauser takes readers behind the scenes, giving them a seat at the table with boxing’s biggest power brokers as he reveals the inner workings of the sport and business of boxing. There Will Always Be Boxing is sure not to disappoint the readers, writers, and critics who look forward to Hauser’s annual collection of articles about the contemporary boxing scene. This collection shows, once again, why Hauser is one of the last real champions of boxing and one of the very best who has ever written about the sport.
