" "Darwin and the Bible: The Cultural Confrontation" is about the history and nature of the disputes over human origins that arose with the publication of Charles Darwin's book, "Origin of Species" in 1859. Rather than focusing solely on the scientific background, the readings provide also the, historical, theological, social and political backgrounds of the debate. The essays in the reader are divided into three sets. The first set addresses how scientists and theologians have tried to resolve the apparent contradictions between Darwin and the Bible.
