Book Description
Intelligent systems are required to enhance the capacities being made available to us by the internet and other computer based technologies. The theory necessary to help providing solutions to difficult problems in the construction of intelligent systems are discussed. In particular, attention is paid to situations in which the available information and data may be imprecise, uncertain, incomplete or of a linguistic nature. Various methodologies to manage such information are discussed. Among these are the probabilistic, possibilistic, fuzzy, logical, evidential and network-based frameworks. One purpose of the book is not to consider these methodologies separately, but rather to consider how they can be used cooperatively to better represent the multiplicity of modes of information. Topics in the book include representation of imperfect knowledge, fundamental issues in uncertainty, reasoning, information retrieval, learning and mining, as well as various applications. Key Features: • Tools for construction of intelligent systems • Contributions by world leading experts • Fundamental issues and applications • New technologies for web searching • Methods for modeling uncertain information • Future directions in web technologies • Transversal to methods and domains

Book Description
The Internet/WWW has made it possible to easily access quantities of information never available before. However, both the amount of information and the variation in quality pose obstacles to the efficient use of the medium. Artificial intelligence techniques can be useful tools in this context. Intellignet systems can be applied to searching the Internet and data-mining, interpreting Internet-derived material, the human-Web interface, remote condition monitoring and many other areas. This volume presents the latest research on the interaction between intelligent systems (neural networks, adaptive and connectionist paradigms, fuzzy and rule-based systems, intelligent agents) and the Internet/WWW. It surveys both the employment of intelligent systems to facilitate and enhance the use of the Internet, and applications where the Internet is a channel through which intelligent techniques are applied. Contents: Search and Resource Discovery Techniques; Adaptive Content Mapping for Internet Navigation; Flexible Queries to XML Information; Agent-Based Hypermedia Models; Self-Organizaing Neural Networks Application for Information Organization; Emotion-Orientated Intelligent Systems; Public Opinion Channel; A New Era of Intelligent E-Commerce; Automated Internet Trading Based on Optimized Physics Models of Markets. Readership: Engineers, researchers, students and technical managers interested in Internet-based intelligent systems.

Book Description
This book covers all core technologies like neural networks, fuzzy systems, and evolutionary computation and their applications in the systems. Computationally intelligent system is a new concept for advanced information processing. The objective of this system is to realize a new approach for analyzing and creating flexible information processing of sensing, learning, recognizing, and action taking. Computational intelligent is a part of artificial intelligence (AI) which includes the study of versatile components to empower or encourage savvy practices in intricate and evolving situations. The computationally intelligent system highly relies on numerical information supplied by manufacturers unlike AI.

Book Description
Published in honour of the 70th birthday of Yoh-Han Pao, George S. Dively Dis tinguished Professor of Engineering at Case Western Reserve University, Cleveland, Ohio, this festschrift embraces a remarkably diverse set of topics. Drawing from the fields of pattern recognition, engineering, artificial intelligence and artificial neural systems, it is a fitting testament to the extraordinary breadth of his professional in terests both in foundational research into the new technology of Intelligent Systems and ill the application of that evolving technology to the solution of hard engineering problems. In common with many scientists who build their reputations in one field before devoting their considerable energies and talents to another one, by 1972, the year in which I met him for the first time, Yoh-Han had made significant contributions to laser technology, in particular to the development of the highly accurate and stable lasers required for holographic recording purposes. In conventional holography, the information stored in a hologram produces a virtual image of the object charac terised by it. However, Yoh-Han became fascinated by the possiblity of driving the process hackwards, of using the hologram as an associative memory device enabling previously stored information to be retrieved on the basis of partial cues. It was this burgeoning interest which shaped his career for more than twenty years. Just prior to 1972, my colleagues Professor Christopher Longuet-Higgins and Dr.

Book Description
Intelligent Systems involve a large class of systems which posses human-like capabilities such as learning, observation, perception, interpretation, reasoning under uncertainty, planning in known and unknown environments, decision making, and control action. The field of intelligent systems is actually a new interdisciplinary field which is the outcome of the interaction, cooperation and synergetic merging of classical fields such as system theory, control theory, artificial intelligence, information theory, operational research, soft computing, communications, linguistic theory, and others. Integrated intelligent decision and control systems involve three primary hierarchical levels, namely organization, coordination and execution levels. As we proceed from the be performed organization to the execution level, the precision about the jobs to increases and accordingly the intelligence required for these jobs decreases. This is in compliance with the principle of increasing precision with decreasing intelligence (IPOI) known from the management field and theoretically established by Saridis using information theory concepts. This book is concerned with intelligent systems and techniques and gives emphasis on the computational and processing issues. Control issues are not included here. The contributions of the book are presented in four parts as follows.

This volume contains the papers selected for presentation at the 17th Inter- tional Symposium on Methodologies for Intelligent Systems (ISMIS 2008), held in York University, Toronto, Canada, May 21–23, 2008. ISMIS is a conference series started in 1986. Held twice every three years, ISMIS provides an inter- tional forum for exchanging scienti?c research and technological achievements in building intelligent systems. Its goal is to achieve a vibrant interchange - tween researchers and practitioners on fundamental and advanced issues related to intelligent systems. ISMIS 2008featureda selectionof latestresearchworkandapplicationsfrom the following areas related to intelligent systems: active media human–computer interaction, autonomic and evolutionary computation, digital libraries, intel- gent agent technology, intelligent information retrieval, intelligent information systems, intelligent language processing, knowledge representation and integ- tion, knowledge discovery and data mining, knowledge visualization, logic for arti?cial intelligence, soft computing, Web intelligence, and Web services. - searchers and developers from 29 countries submitted more than 100 full - pers to the conference. Each paper was rigorously reviewed by three committee members and external reviewers. Out of these submissions, 40% were selected as regular papers and 22% as short papers. ISMIS 2008 also featured three plenary talks given by John Mylopoulos, Jiawei Han and Michael Lowry. They spoke on their recent research in age- oriented software engineering, information network mining, and intelligent so- ware engineering tools, respectively.
