Book Description
A fresh, strikingly immediate and elegant verse translation of the classic, with an introduction and helpful guides to each section, by the rising American poet. Born in the United States into a secularized Hindu family, Amit Majmudar puzzled over the many religious traditions on offer, and found that the Bhagavad Gita had much to teach him with its "song of multiplicities." Chief among them is that "its own assertions aren't as important as the relationships between its characters . . . The Gita imagined a relationship in which the soul and God are equals"; it is, he believes, "the greatest poem of friendship . . . in any language." His verse translation captures the many tones and strategies Krishna uses with Arjuna--strict and berating, detached and philosophical, tender and personable. "Listening guides" to each section follow the main text, and expand in accessible terms on the text and what is happening between the lines. Godsong is an instant classic in the field, from a poet of skill, fine intellect, and--perhaps most important--devotion.

Book Description
The 'Song of God' is a new book of scripture for a new and modern age. This revelation was brought forth by Azrael Ondi-Ahman (a.k.a., Archie Dean Wood, Sr.) who, in 1979, began receiving visitations by highly evolved, glorified human beings who identified themselves as God. After seven years of instruction, Azrael was commissioned to begin writing what would become the foundation for a new dispensation, and the restoration of gnosis for all humanity. The 'Song of God' begins with the premise that the only proper religion for mankind is humanity itself, for it is from this humanity that God first evolved -God who is our future, came from humans who are Their past. Extraordinary in depth and scope, the 'Song of God' is both radical and affirming. This modern revelation is an anthem of knowledge, myth and mystery that will sing to the heart and uplift the mind. The 'Song of God' is a grand unification of wisdom and truth, confirming with sound clarity the beauty, value and potential of humankind. This book presents a new standard, a new choice that both challenges and empowers us to let go of hurtful dogmas and move forward into an age of greater peace and understanding.

Book Description
"God Bless America" is a song most Americans know well. It is taught in American schools and regularly performed at sporting events. After the attacks on September 11th, it was sung on the steps of the Capitol, at spontaneous memorial sites, and during the seventh inning stretch at baseball games, becoming even more deeply embedded in America's collective consciousness. In God Bless America, Sheryl Kaskowitz tells the fascinating story behind America's other national anthem. It begins with the song's composition by Irving Berlin in 1918 and first performance by Kate Smith in 1938, revealing an early struggle for control between composer and performer as well as the hidden economics behind the song's royalties. Kaskowitz shows how the early popularity of "God Bless America" reflected the anxiety of the pre-war period and sparked a surprising anti-Semitic and xenophobic backlash. She follows the song's rightward ideological trajectory from early associations with religious and ethnic tolerance to increasing uses as an anthem for the Christian Right, and considers the song's popularity directly after the September 11th attacks. The book concludes with a portrait of the song's post-9/11 function within professional baseball, illuminating the power of the song - and of communal singing itself - as a vehicle for both commemoration and coercion. A companion website offers streaming audio of recordings referenced in the book, links to videos of relevant performances, appendices of information, and an opportunity for readers to participate in the author's survey. Based on extensive archival research and fieldwork, God Bless America sheds new light on cultural tensions within the U.S., past and present, and offers a historical chronicle that is full of surprises and that will both edify and delight readers from all walks of life.

The Song of Songs and the Eros of God

Book Description
Modern biblical scholarship interprets the Song as a collection of love lyrics. For Edmée Kingsmill, on the contrary, the essence of the Song is mystical. A principal concern of this study, however, is to uncover the relationship between the 117 verses of the Song and those biblical books to which they point. Beneath the metaphors a network of allusions is being woven, conveying a picture opposite to that we find in the prophets who, confronted with the continual 'adultery' of Israel, poured forth their condemnations with unwearying passion. In dramatic contrast, the Song presents a paradisal picture: 'For, lo, the winter is past, the rain is over and gone. The flowers appear in the land, and the time of singing is come' (Song 2: 11-12). Thus, in presenting the ideal, the intention of the Song's author is shown to be encouragement. The inclusion of this poem in the biblical canon is understood, therefore, to be central to the purpose of the biblical literature: to bring all people to love the God of love. The book is in two parts. The first and longer part is concerned with themes, including the relationship of the Song to the early Jewish mystical literature. The second part is a short commentary intended for the reader interested in the text as much as in the related questions to which the text gives rise.

Book Description
Taking seriously the practice and not just the theory of music, this ground-breaking collection of essays establishes a new standard for the interdisciplinary conversation between theology, musicology, and liturgical studies. The public making of music in our society happens more often in the context of chapels, churches, and cathedrals than anywhere else. The command to sing and make music to God makes music an essential part of the DNA of Christian worship. The book’s three main parts address questions about the history, the performative contexts, and the nature of music. Its opening four chapters traces how accounts of music and its relation to God, the cosmos, and the human person have changed dramatically through Western history, from the patristic period through medieval, Reformation and modern times. A second section examines the role of music in worship, and asks what—if anything—makes a piece of music suitable for religious use. The final part of the book shows how the serious discussion of music opens onto considerations of time, tradition, ontology, anthropology, providence, and the nature of God. A pioneering set of explorations by a distinguished group of international scholars, this book will be of interest to anyone interested in Christianity’s long relationship with music, including those working in the fields of theology, musicology, and liturgical studies.

Imagine Gods book of poetry, the Psalms, written as poems that rhyme that have a variety of metrical patterns that remain true to meaning of Scripture that help us hear Gods voice in a new way Jehovah, Thou searchest me deeply; My nature dost Thou understand; Whenever I sit, Thou ponderest it; Whenever I rise, Thou dost realize My thoughts and the deeds I have planned. Psalm 139 Jehovahs mine, my Shepherd divine; No want will He fail to surpass; He makes me dine, be filled, and recline In pastures of tender, young grass. Psalm 23 The panting hart seeks most and first For water-brooks, to quench its thirst, Lest it should die; So pants my soul, O God, for Thee Who art the God of life to me: Let me draw nigh! Psalm 42 I have been teaching the Psalms for more than thirty years, and yet, as I read through these poems, I found myself repeatedly stopping to reflect on things I had never considered before, and being blessed by that exercise. Book Description
Praise God! I was given the opportunity to share the words and songs he has given me throughout my lifetime. I pray that when reading this book, you realize how awesome our Father in heaven actually is. He is real. He is holy. He is all-powerful. He is the answer to any and every problem you may be facing now or are confronted with in the future. Satan is a liar and trying desperately to get people to turn away from our loving Father, but remember, his time is short""God is eternal. There is nothing that can come upon you that God hasn't already taken care of. Even death is a win situation when you believe in our Savior, Jesus Christ. God has everything under control. I pray that when reading this book, you feel encouraged, strengthened, and have the peace that passes all understanding. I pray that you can learn to laugh at adversity, and praise God in all things, remembering that all things work together for the good to them that love God (Romans 8:28). God has provided everything we need to live in joy on this earth. Every answer to all questions and every test can be found in his precious word, the Bible. As Barnaby would say, "It's an open book test." Barnaby was the minister that encouraged me to actually read the Bible that had been gathering dust for so many years on my bookshelf. I thank God for Barnaby and his ministry. I pray that the words and songs in this book will encourage you to pick up your Bibles and to start reading. I pray that it makes you hungry for more knowledge of our precious God and Savior, Jesus Christ. "Behold, I stand at the door and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him and sup with him and him with me" (Revelation 3:20). I pray that God blesses you abundantly and that you live in peace and understanding.
