This manuscript in its original thesis form was published by Field Research Projects of Florida in 1974. It had a very limited circulation and was basically in the form of a mimeographed edition. The version now published here represents the work for the first time as a proper publication in book form and has been revised and edited and is appropriately produced as a regular archaeological book. Fundamentally this was and remains the seminal work on the subject and was the first in its filed. It is an integral work of scholarship of permanent value. It is a work written in its own time and no attempt has been made to retrospectively interfere or change the nature of the text or its conclusions but to publish it for what it is. The work has ushered in a series of field excavations and analyses that expand upon it and amplify the information already given in the work itself. Thus one could say that this original work has had a seminal and indeed catalytic impact on the archaeology of the Gulf over the last two decades. This edition first published in 1997. Electrical Shock Safety Criteria documents the proceedings of the First International Symposium on Electrical Shock Safety Criteria, held in Toronto, Canada, 7-9 September 1983. The objective was to establish the state of the art in the field of electrical shock safety criteria as applied to electrical power utilities. The symposium brought together leading experts from electrical utilities, universities, and research laboratories from around the world, interested in problems associated with electrical shock and safety. The proceedings are organized in three sections, each consisting of the morning review papers and afternoon panel discussions. Section 1 presents an in-depth analysis of the physiology of electrical shocks including such topics as body-weight scaling, electrocution equation, physiological effects of electrical current, and factors affecting fibrillation threshold. On October 16 and 17, 2000, we hosted an international workshop entitled "Statistical Design, Measurement, and Analysis of Health Related Quality of Life." The workshop was held in the beautiful city of Arradon, South Brittany, France with the main goal of fostering an interdisciplinary forum for discussion of theoretical and applied statistical issues arising in studies of health-related quality of life (HRQoL). Included were biostatisticians, psychometricians and public health professionals (e.g., physicians, sociologists, psychologists) active in the study ofHRQoL. In assembling this volume, we invited each conference participant to contribute a paper based on his or her presentation and the ensuing and very interesting discussions that took place in Arradon. All papers were peer-reviewed, by anonymous reviewers, and revised before final editing and acceptance. Although this process was quite time consuming, we believe that it greatly improved the volume as a whole, making this book a valuable contribution to the field ofHRQoL research. The volume presents a broad spectrum of papers presented at the Workshop, and thus illustrates the range of current research related to the theory, methods and applications of HRQoL, as well as the interdisciplinary nature ofthis work. Following an introduction written by Sir David Cox, it includes 27 articles organized into the following chapters.
