Book Description
This study is facilitated by following economic entomologists' and ecologists' changing ideas about different pest control strategies, chiefly 'chemical', 'biological', and 'integrated' control. The author then follows the efforts of one specific group of entomologists, at the University of California, over three generations from their advocacy of 'biological' controls in the 1930s and 40s, through their shifting attention to the development of an 'integrated pest management' in the context of 'big biology' during the 1970s.

Book Description
The influence of insects on human life – destructive and beneficial – can be traced back to prehistoric days until now. Agricultural entomology concerns itself with the study of insects associated with various aspects of agriculture. It deals with the study of both beneficial and detrimental insects. Insects that are detrimental to agriculture are commonly known as insect pests. The bulk of agricultural entomology deals with the control of those. Insect pest control is now conducted through integrated pest management (IPM) principles that aim to be sustainable in the use of resources and environmentally friendly. IPM requires plenty of experience and knowledge and combines all available methods of control. Prevention is also an important component of IPM programs. In India, agriculture is the main occupation of the majority of people. The most important natural enemies of agricultural crops are insects, plant diseases, weeds and weather conditions. Out of this, insects are the greatest competitors of man in the struggle for existence. In the present topic the various kinds of pest will be studied in broad sense/view.

Book Description
The chapters in this book were developed from some of the lectures presented at a sym posium at the XX International Congress of Entomology held in Florence, Italy in August 1996. The purpose of the symposium was to discuss the impact of evolving modern agricultural landscapes on the insect species, of both economic and ecological importance, that utilize that habitat. Agricultural policy, to some extent, influences the choices that farmers make and thereby the shape of the agricultural landscape. In order to move toward more sustainable agro ecosystems future policy makers will have to consider the history of land use, consumer demands for both environmentally sound and affordable products, and the conservation of biological diversity. I would hope the information contained in this book will help stimulate discussion about the consequences of policy decisions on our agricultural landscapes and their insect inhabitants. I thank all the speakers from the symposium and in particular those that have been able to contribute chapters to this book. There have been many delays, most due to circumstances beyond anyone's control. I would like to express my appreciation to Gloria Verhey and Patrick Dumont for taking care of the book in these final months. Book Description
This book outlines a new paradigm, “Agro-ecological Intensification of Crop Protection”, which reduces negative impacts on the environment and enhances the provision of ecosystem services. It discusses the use of ecologically based management strategies to increase the sustainability of agricultural production while reducing off-site consequences, highlighting the underlying principles and outlining some of the key management practices and technologies required to implement agro-ecological pest management. It also comprehensively explores important topics like stimulo-deterrent diversion strategy, precision agriculture, plant breeding, nutrient management, habitat management, cultural approaches, cultivar mixtures/multiline cultivars, crop rotation, crop residue management, crop diversity, cover crops, conservation tillage, biofumigation, agro-forestry, and addition of organic matter. This timely book promotes the rapid implementation of this technology in farming community around the globe. It is a valuable resource for the scientific community involved in teaching, research and extension activities related to agro-ecological pest management as well as policymakers and practicing farmers. It can also be used for teaching post-graduate courses.

Book Description
A full understanding of the biology and life histories of pest species is vital for all those involved in crop production and crop protection. This important new title provides comprehensive coverage of major insect and mite pest species, primarily in Northern Europe. Textbook of Agricultural Entomology is broadly divided into two parts. The first part covers the external and internal features of the major insect and mite pest families, while the second part provides detailed descriptions of major pest species including information on life history stages (vital information when considering control methods) and the crops which these species attack.
