Book Description
Why the War on Cancer Has Failed and What That Means for More Effective Prevention and Treatment A groundbreaking look at the role of water in living organisms that ultimately brings us closer to answering the riddle of the etiology of, and therapy and treatment for, cancer When President Nixon launched the War on Cancer with the signing of the National Cancer Act of 1971 and the allocation of billions of research dollars, it was amidst a flurry of promises that a cure was within reach. The research establishment was trumpeting the discovery of oncogenes, the genes that supposedly cause cancer. As soon as we identified them and treated cancer patients accordingly, cancer would become a thing of the past. Fifty years later it’s clear that the War on Cancer has failed—despite what the cancer industry wants us to believe. New diagnoses have continued to climb; one in three people in the United States can now expect to battle cancer during their lifetime. For the majority of common cancers, the search for oncogenes has not changed the treatment: We’re still treating with the same old triad of removing (surgery), burning out (radiation), or poisoning (chemotherapy). In Cancer and the New Biology of Water, Thomas Cowan, MD, argues that this failure was inevitable because the oncogene theory is incorrect—or at least incomplete—and based on a flawed concept of biology in which DNA controls our cellular function and therefore our health. Instead, Dr. Cowan tells us, the somatic mutations seen in cancer cells are the result of a cellular deterioration that has little to do with oncogenes, DNA, or even the nucleus. The root cause is metabolic dysfunction that deteriorates the structured water that forms the basis of cytoplasmic—and therefore, cellular—health. Despite mainstream medicine’s failure to bring an end to suffering or deliver on its promises, it remains illegal for physicians to prescribe anything other than the “standard of care” for their cancer patients—no matter how dangerous and ineffective that standard may be—and despite the fact that gentler, more effective, and more promising treatments exist. While Dr. Cowan acknowledges that all of these treatments need more research, Cancer and the New Biology of Water is an impassioned plea from a long-time physician that these promising treatments merit our attention and research dollars and that patients have the right to information, options, and medical freedom in matters of their own life and death.

Book Description
The first conference on concomitant infusion chemotherapy and radia tion therapy was organized with the intention of bringing together some of the investigators who have tested, during the last few years, the hypo thesis that continuous infusion chemotherapy could modulate the cytotoxic effect of radiation therapy to the point of having a strongly additive, if not synergistic activity on certain malignant tumors. This volume represents the detailed proceedings of this conference presented in a way that offers the reader a review of the on-going re search in the field. We have stressed a number of subjects from basic biologic research and influence of cell kinetics to the practical methods of drug delivery systems and early clinical experiences. The rationale for this new type of combined modality therapy has been presented by some of its pioneers. Early clinical investigations as well as the preliminary data of many that have not yet completely matured have also been included. The reader should look at these data with some reser vations. Ultimately, these results must be confirmed by larger prospective randomized studies with proper controls before becoming accepted as the treatment of choice in locally advanced tumors.

Book Description
Written by the winner of the 2008 Mike Price Fellowship "This volume provides a comprehensive overview of the wealth of information now available in this important and fast-moving subject." Anticancer Research, November - December 2008 This book provides a clear introduction to the area, with an overview of the various drug design and development approaches for cancer therapeutics and their progress in today’s multidisciplinary approach to cancer treatment. Clearly structured throughout, the book not only provides information on currently used molecular treatment approaches, but also describes the various agents that are currently at various stages of development and clinical trials, thus making them the drugs of tomorrow. The book goes on to present current therapeutic regimes including their indications and side effects, as well as their position in the international market in terms of sales and development costs. Furthermore, coverage of our advancement in the understanding of cancer biology and how this has driven the drug discovery process is clearly discussed. Modern drug discovery aspects, through genomic, proteomic and metabolomic approaches are referred to as well as combinatorial chemistry techniques and discovery of chemotherapeutic agents from plant extracts, re-use of old drugs and drugs from other indications, or de novo rational drug design. Including contributions from leading experts in the field, this book provides the reader with a complete overview of the various types of therapeutic agents, current and emerging, as well as other aspects associated with anticancer therapy, drug design, resistance and clinical trials in oncology.

Book Description
Since the first edition was published in 1982, Treatment of Cancer has become a standard text for postgraduate physicians in the UK and beyond, providing all information necessary for modern cancer management in one comprehensive but accessible volume. By inviting experts from a number of disciplines to share their knowledge, the editors have succeeded in delivering a truly integrated approach to the care of the patient with cancer. This fifth edition adopts the successful structure of previous editions, whilst being thoroughly revised and updated, and with several completely new chapters, covering important topics such as drug development, cancer prevention, and economics of cancer care, as well as treatments such as radioimmunotherapy, biological therapies and antibody therapy. Part One considers the scientific basis and fundamental principles underlying cancer treatment and examines the likely developments that will occur over the next decade at the leading edge of oncology. Part Two is divided into two sections; the first covering general issues of cancer management, including planning techniques, concomitent chemoradiotherapy, surgical oncology and palliative care; and the second using a system-based approach to cover the clinical aspects and management plans for the whole spectrum of malignant disease. Treatment of Cancer surpasses other oncology texts in condensing the essential information for exemplary cancer care into one readable and accessible guide, and will be an invaluable addition to the bookshelves of the busy oncologist in training or in practice.
