Book Description
Excerpt from Anaesthetics: Their Uses and Administration Since the issue of the earlier editions of this book a material advance has been made in our knowledge of anaesthesia and analgesia; while the older methods have become more accurate many new and valuable ones have been added to the anaesthetists armamentarium. This has necessitated rewriting most of the old sections, deletion of obsolete apparatus and theories, and a considerable addition of new material. As illustrations render the letterpress easier of comprehension, especially when apparatus are concerned, a large number of photographs and woodcuts have been added. Eight full-sized plates have been inserted, some of which point out the position to be adopted by the patient and anaesthetist during certain methods, while others indicate the course and surface-marking of the direction of the principal sensory nerves and arm veins, thus facilitating the carrying out of regional analgesia and intra-venous infusion. The occurrence of the International Medical Congress in 1913 and the focussing of modern ideas on analgesia and anaesthesia in the subsection devoted to these subjects enabled me to obtain at first hand from the actual promoters of the more modern procedures the fullest and most reliable information. It also provides information about basic standards for proper use of anesthesia. In addition, it examines the equipment and different anesthetic agents that are used in performing an experiment on animals. The book also discusses the profound effects of anesthesia on the physiological aspect of the animals’ body systems, such as hypothermia and respiratory depression. The book addresses the proper management and care that should be provided for the animals that undergo anesthesia. Furthermore, it covers different anesthetic procedures that should be used on various kinds of small animals intended for laboratory experiments. The main goal of this book is to provide information about the different anesthetic agents used in experiments, and the proper standards to follow when using anesthetics on lab animals. • New edition provides new information on anesthesia and analgesia, and has an extensively revised and updated bibliography • Provides a balanced consideration of the needs of scientific research and the welfare of laboratory animals • Written by a veterinary anesthetist and scientist with over 30 years' experience in the field, and who is actively engaged in research in this area • Provides rapid, easily accessed information using tabulated summaries • Provides those with limited experience of anesthesia with the information they need to carry our procedures effectively, safely, and humanely • Provides sufficient depth for the more experienced anesthetist moving to this field

Book Description
Synthesis of Essential Drugs describes methods of synthesis, activity and implementation of diversity of all drug types and classes. With over 2300 references, mainly patent, for the methods of synthesis for over 700 drugs, along with the most widespread synonyms for these drugs, this book fills the gap that exists in the literature of drug synthesis. It provides the kind of information that will be of interest to those who work, or plan to begin work, in the areas of biologically active compounds and the synthesis of medicinal drugs. This book presents the synthesis of various groups of drugs in an order similar to that traditionally presented in a pharmacology curriculum. This was done with a very specific goal in mind – to harmonize the chemical aspects with the pharmacology curriculum in a manner useful to chemists. Practically every chapter begins with an accepted brief definition and description of a particular group of drugs, proposes their classification, and briefly explains the present model of their action. This is followed by a detailed discussion of methods for their synthesis. Of the thousands of drugs existing on the pharmaceutical market, the book mainly covers generic drugs that are included in the WHO’s Essential List of Drugs. For practically all of the 700+ drugs described in the book, references (around 2350) to the methods of their synthesis are given along with the most widespread synonyms. Synthesis of Essential Drugs is an excellent handbook for chemists, biochemists, medicinal chemists, pharmacists, pharmacologists, scientists, professionals, students, university libraries, researchers, medical doctors and students, and professionals working in medicinal chemistry. * Provides a brief description of methods of synthesis, activity and implementation of all drug types * Includes synonyms * Includes over 2300 references
