Book Description
Excerpt from An Exposition of the Prophecies of the Apocalypse The author having in the course of a ministry of more than twenty years made prophecy a subject of frequent reading and study, at length found time to write the following discourses. He ventures to present them to the public in the hope that they will be found to throw some additional light on the hidden sense of the apocalypse, and be in some degree instrumental in promoting attention and respect to the teachings and admonitions of that wonderful book. St. John has declared them blessed who read and hear the words of his prophecy and keep the sayings written therein. The author asks of those to whom these pages may come, that they will not prejudge them as fanciful and obscure, but give them a candid investigation. Book Description
Excerpt from The Apocalypse Explained: In Two Series of Discourses on the Entire Book of the Revelation of St. John From the time of the recommencement of the vision, historic narrative traces the events predicted, as far as fulfilled; and from thence we may ascertain how far the prophecy has run its course, and what yet remains future, and consequently, to what part of the course of the predicted events the present times are related. It is this which renders the book of Revelation so very interesting a study. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book Description
Andrew Fuller's commentary on Revelation (1815) appeared as one of the final statements of his long engagement with biblical apocalyptic writing. Fuller thought through his eschatological commitments as he moved from the high Calvinism of his early ministry to the evangelical Calvinism of his later life. The early influence of Gill - which included an eccentric combination of positions later identified as pre- and post-millennial - gave way to an evangelical piety strongly influenced by the writings of Jonathan Edwards. Fuller was deeply influenced by Edwards' support for evangelical revival, and by his expectation that the gospel would sweep victoriously across the globe. Fuller's commentary on Revelation, published in the year following his death, offers access to one of his last series of sermons, to his mature understanding of how divine providence was unfolding the mysteries of biblical prophecy, and to the robust post-millennial optimism that did so much to support his enthusiasm for global missionary work.
