Book Description
These articles and book reports have been written in the hope that readers could believe as I do that the world, including our country, is in great danger for multiple of reasons: 1. The spread of adherents to Islam threaten to engulf all persons of different faiths. They are winning through violence but also just by having more babies than every other culture. The leaders of Europe and America refuse to accept how evil this belief system is and how they have only one agenda—and that is to have dominion over all nations. 2. Our Constitution has been destroyed by the administration of President Obama and the Supreme Court. He does whatever he wants regardless of the Congress. The Court extended the commerce authority to allow the government to force citizens to purchase a service and allowed the corporations to spend anything they want to affect the outcome of elections. 3. We are drowning in debt but continue to add costly programs, making it even worse without making any attempt to reduce the strain. Military adventures continue without end. Government handouts to the so-called needy have created a permanent underclass of people being supported while not required to put forth effort. 4. The government refuses to take the steps needed to become energy efficient, which could be accomplished easily, thereby freeing us from OPEC. For those of you who don’t remember, in the ’50s, we exported oil.

Book Description
The classic history of golf in America beginning with the first clubs to arrive on the coast—from “golf’s most respected and authoritative writer” (Golf magazine). Widely regarded as the definitive account of America’s love affair with the world’s greatest game, this magisterial volume is Herbert Warren Wind’s masterpiece. From John Reid, the expatriate Scotsman who imported a set of clubs and balls from St. Andrews in 1888 and built a three-hole course on a cow pasture in Yonkers, New York, to Alan Shepard’s six-iron shot on the surface of the moon, The Story of American Golf documents the iconic moments in the sport’s first century in the United States. Wind captures legendary players, including C. B. Macdonald, Bobby Jones, Byron Nelson, Babe Didrikson Zaharias, Ben Hogan, and Jack Nicklaus, in all their glory, and expertly analyzes the developments in style, equipment, and technique that created the modern game. Encyclopedic in scope and intimate in detail, The Story of American Golf is both a fitting tribute to the beautiful and fickle game that inspired a national obsession and a testament to Herbert Warren Wind’s incomparable talents as a journalist and historian.

Book Description
As a golfer, open your mind when reading this treatise on the sport and its future. We all must consider where golf is headed and how best to protect the traditions of the game. I think The Future of Golf in America is vitally important. --Ben Crenshaw, former Masters champion Geoff Shackelford is a sane voice from deep in the trees. In his new and important book, The Future of Golf In America, he's here to tell us that bigger is not better. His call is the same one Henry David Thoreau made from a different wood: 'Simplify, simplify.' --Michael Bamberger, Sports Illustrated senior writer and author of To the Linksland A galvanizing new book from one of America's leading golf writers, The Future of Golf in America reveals how the tradition-rich sport has been kidnapped by equipment manufacturers and knowingly deregulated by its governing bodies. and Grounds for Golf, Geoff Shackelford charges that the slumping golf industry responds to unregulated technology by lengthening and narrowing courses at great expense, even as golfers flee the sport because golf takes too long, is too difficult and too expensive. Offering new commentary and analysis, along with essays from the Los Angeles Times, Links, Golf Magazine, Golf World and Golfdom, Shackelford chronicles several astonishing mistakes made by the once-respected United States Golf Association. He observes that the momentum gained from Tiger Woods' positive effect on golf's popularity is being squandered by an ill-advised emphasis on commercial interests. Shackelford urges the USGA to re-shoulder its responsibilities while suggesting how the PGA Tour can restore excitement to its championships for the good of the sport.

Book Description
The surprising science of hearing and the remarkable technologies that can help us hear better Our sense of hearing makes it easy to connect with the world and the people around us. The human system for processing sound is a biological marvel, an intricate assembly of delicate membranes, bones, receptor cells, and neurons. Yet many people take their ears for granted, abusing them with loud restaurants, rock concerts, and Q-tips. And then, eventually, most of us start to go deaf. Millions of Americans suffer from hearing loss. Faced with the cost and stigma of hearing aids, the natural human tendency is to do nothing and hope for the best, usually while pretending that nothing is wrong. In Volume Control, David Owen argues this inaction comes with a huge social cost. He demystifies the science of hearing while encouraging readers to get the treatment they need for hearing loss and protect the hearing they still have. Hearing aids are rapidly improving and becoming more versatile. Inexpensive high-tech substitutes are increasingly available, making it possible for more of us to boost our weakening ears without bankrupting ourselves. Relatively soon, physicians may be able to reverse losses that have always been considered irreversible. Even the insistent buzz of tinnitus may soon yield to relatively simple treatments and techniques. With wit and clarity, Owen explores the incredible possibilities of technologically assisted hearing. And he proves that ears, whether they're working or not, are endlessly interesting.
