Book Description
Introduction to the Mystery of the Church is an ecclesiological survey presenting a doctrinal synthesis of the Church. The author's intention is to propose an overview of this mystery in connection with the entirety of the Christian mystery. The book is divided into two major parts, the first presenting the foundations in the Bible and the tradition up to our day, and the second being an explanatory proposal introducing the reader to the Church's definition and personality and concluding with an exposition of the four properties enunciated in the Creed (one, holy, catholic, and apostolic). The value of this way of proceeding is first and foremost in the proposal of a synthesis that allows one to situate each question in its rightful place, such study being oriented toward a better overall grasp of the subject. As the title suggests, the book is an introduction that should allow the reader to apprehend the mystery in its internal coherence in order subsequently, with the aid of other texts, to be able to enter more deeply into the study of one or other specific point. While this ecclesiology treatise is written from a Catholic point of view, an ecumenical perspective is often present, either through the presentation of divergent views from other Christian confessions or through the proposal for a theological convergence.

Book Description
GOD HAS A SECRET. It is a life-changing, destiny-determining "secret." It is a "secret" because the Bible says it is. It is God's secret because He has declared it to be "secret." Yet it is a secret God desires to disclose to all who will seek it, unlocking all of the covenantal blessings and promises of God, both on earth and for eternity. SECRETS ARE LIKE MYSTERIES. A mystery cries to be mastered. It remains a mystery until the right connections of fact are discerned, unveiling truth that sweeps away the shroud of "mystery." So it is with secrets. Once uncovered, the secret is no longer "secret" but becomes available for decision-making regarding life direction and eternal destiny. Such is The Secret of the Lord. "SECRETS" ABOUND. They can lure the unsuspecting to invest th eir lives and resources in false hopes leading to broken promises, disillusionment, and eventually eternal destruction. Yet God's secret is singular and secure in a world offering a buffet table of supposed spiritual "secrets." So important is God's "secret," that it becomes our Creator's final gospel message to our planet before the Second Coming of Jesus Christ. There has never been a more urgent time to discover The Secret of the Lord.

Book Description
Mystery of the Church presents a global picture of the main themes of current ecclesiology. First, it deals with the institution of the Church and her essential nature. Subsequently the four hallmarks of the Church are described. Her unity and holiness are guaranteed by the sanctity of Christ her Head despite the sinfulness of her members. The catholicity of the Church is also examined from the perspective of Eastern Christendom. The apostolicity of the Church leads to a description of the Petrine Office. The Church is seen as the instrument of salvation, and her relationship with the State and with science is investigated. Finally the Church is pictured as leading to the Kingdom of God. This is the fifth volume of Fr Paul Haffner's systematic exposition of theology - previously published volumes in this series: Mystery of Creation, The Mystery of Mary, The Mystery of Reason, The Sacramental Mystery. Paul Haffner is a priest and professor of theology at Regina Apostolorum University in Rome, visiting professor at the Pontifical Gregorian University, and adjunct lecturer at Duquesne University Roman Campus.

Book Description
The Church: a body so diverse, so manifold, often so divided, that one struggles to define her, to see her face. "If I seek a glimpse of her, where will I find her?" asks theologian Henri de Lubac, S.J. In these reflections written at the end of Vatican II, de Lubac, who played a key role at the Council yet was leery of rapid reform, searches out the wrinkled, mysterious beauty of the Church he loves as his mother. The Catholic Church is such a paradox, a unity of opposites, that many are scandalized, a fact from which de Lubac does not shrink: "I am told that she is holy, yet I see her full of sinners.... I am assured that she is universal, ... yet so often I note that her members, as if by fate, huddle timidly together in closed enclaves, just like human beings everywhere." But her distinctive beauty, when he beholds it, leaves him floored, "this beauty most rare, most improbable, most disconcerting ... not the complete achievement of human perfection, ... but a strange and supernatural beauty opening unknown vistas to me." These seven brief studies on the mystery of Christ's Church illuminate the documents of Vatican II and offer nourishment and clarity to those confused by turbulence or hypocrisy among Christians. De Lubac, who was made a Cardinal by Pope John Paul II before his death in 1991, reflects deeply on the nature of authentic holiness in the modern world and argues that sainthood is not only possible but already - through the work of the Holy Spirit - quite alive amidst all the storms, whether in his time or in ours.
