Book Description
Following the burst of the “economic bubble” in the 1990s, many Japanese companies were required to reform their management systems. Changes in corporate governance were widely discussed during that decade in studies on “Japanese management.” These discussions have resulted in little progress, however, since Americanization became the dominant discourse concerning governance and the management system. There have been few studies conducted from an academic point of view on the internal aspects of organizations that practice traditional Japanese management theory. This book examines how, and the degree to which, the development of market principles accompanying the advances of globalization has affected the traditional Japanese system. It focuses on four aspects of corporate management: management institutions, strategy, organization, and human resource management. The aggregation of the new management system in Japanese companies is regarded as a distinctive Japanese-style system of management. With emphasis on these four aspects, research was conducted on the basic structure of that system, following changes in the market, technology, and society. Further, specific functions of the basic structure of the Japanese-style management system were studied. Those findings are included here, along with a discussion and analysis of the direction of future changes.

Book Description
For many western managers the approach taken by successful Japanese organisations and their managers has tended to inspire awe, envy and incomprehension in equal measure. But what is so special about 'Japanese' management? And how 'special' is the response of Japanese managers to global business pressures ? This textbook addresses these questions. It presents case examples generated from interviews with Japanese managers in Japan, Europe and the USA, contextualising their comments by reference to recent research in the fields of international and intercultural management. The book explains how and why individual managers variously perceive threats or opportunities in the business and career environments currently evolving both inside and outside Japan. It combines vivid images of the expected and the exceptional, the traditional with the new and unfamiliar. The Changing Face of Japanese Management offers management students with little prior knowledge of Japanese business and society, critical insights into what is happening inside Japanese management today. It also offers clear and immediately transferable insights to management practitioners who are preparing to work or negotiate with Japanese business partners.

Book Description
As an entrepreneur - and especially leading a medium-sized company - can you prepare for the future in a targeted manner? Which methods work and where do you succumb to classic thinking errors when planning for the future? This book shows how companies can develop viable future scenarios for their own market in order to remain successful and profitable in the future. Anyone who thought they were operating in a stable market and were prepared for crises was proven wrong by the Corona pandemic. But even less dramatic influences such as technological disruption, side attacks by competitors from outside the industry or end-of-life scenarios are massively changing the environment of companies and demand - at the latest now! - a rethink. In this completely revised 2nd edition, the author shows why early planning for the future can be decisive for success, why one should not rely on experience and intuition, and which mistakes should be avoided. In addition, he explains which tools can be used and put together to form a well-founded process with which future, but also crisis, management can be creatively planned.A useful guide for managing directors, executives, marketing managers and planners in medium-sized companies - with helpful tips, illustrative examples and an individually adaptable template for a future workshop. This book is a translation of the original German 2nd edition Zukunftsmanagement für den Mittelstand by Heino Hilbig, published by Springer Fachmedien Wiesbaden GmbH, part of Springer Nature in 2020. The translation was done with the help of artificial intelligence (machine translation by the service DeepL.com). A subsequent human revision was done primarily in terms of content, so that the book will read stylistically differently from a conventional translation.
