Book Description
This collection of essays was the last work planned by Ayn Rand before her death in 1982. In it, she summarizes her view of philosophy and deals with a broad spectrum of topics. According to Ayn Rand, the choice we make is not whether to have a philosophy, but which one to have: rational, conscious, and therefore practical; or contradictory, unidentified, and ultimately lethal. Written with all the clarity and eloquence that have placed Ayn Rand’s Objectivist philosophy in the mainstream of American thought, these essays range over such basic issues as education, morality, censorship, and inflation to prove that philosophy is the fundamental force in all our lives.

Book Description
Too often skeptics charge Christians with having a blind faith. Unfortunately, believers have added fuel to the charges of skeptics by speaking of their faith illogically. But the Christian faith is not a blind faith. In fact, biblical faith is never a blind, irrational faith. Christianity rests firmly on the stone that was rejected by the builders, which has become the cornerstone--Jesus Christ (Acts 4:11). Living biblically requires thinking biblically, just as "to think biblically entails to live biblically," as Winfried Corduan notes in the Foreword. As followers of Christ, believers cannot separate biblical thinking and biblical living. These two behaviors are eternally connected not only in the person of Jesus Christ, but they stem from the eternal being of God the Father and his eternal truth. Christ mandates that his followers love God with their entire being--heart, soul, mind, and strength (Mark 12:30). How are believers to go about living out this biblical mandate? Christian faith is a warranted belief. This is why it is so essential that Christians recognize the value and importance of philosophy and its proper place in Christendom and in the Christian's walk.

Book Description
ABOUT THE BOOK Ayn Rand studied philosophy at university, and devoted much of her life to developing her own philosophy, known as Objectivism. In Rand's view, no one who does not have either an implicit or explicit worldview can adequately deal with life's problems. Hence, the titular essay of her book, Philosophy: Who Needs It? The original essay was delivered as an address to the graduating class of the United States Military Academy at West Point, in 1974. A recording of this talk, along with the subsequent Q&A, is also available. MEET THE AUTHOR Mia has two intersecting careers: She is a philosophy professor in the Philosophy/Sociology Department at Pierce College, and a freelance writer. Her combined skills, experience, and broad range of interests make me a thorough and efficient researcher, concept analyst and developer, and writer across a wide array of topics and subjects.Whether she writes fiction or non-fiction, her main interests involve societal issues and culture, primarily from a philosophical standpoint. What that means is that she not only attempts to investigate and inquire into the ideas that underpin or permeate certain issues and topics, but also to remain open to changing my her views. It is often the case that inquiry forces one to re-evaluate and amend one's beliefs. It can be a rather uncomfortable experience, but worthwhile nonetheless. Such is the case with Mia. She attempts to see where the topic at hand leads her, and questions what sort of method she uses in her investigation, and then draws a conclusion.Mia's philosophical interests range across metaphysical and epistemological subjects such as free will and moral responsibility, causation, conditionals, consciousness, personal identity, punishment, and metaphor, to contemporary issues such as same-sex marriage. She greatly enjoys conducting introductory courses in the history of philosophy, logic, and ethics. Perhaps her greatest satisfaction comes through connecting philosophical topics with the details of daily life we take for granted. Looking, for example, at the purpose of marriage yields interesting discussions about what it means to be human. Mia's Ph.D. is in Philosophy, and she teaches a broad range of subject areas in her discipline. Her freelance writing experience includes articles, essays, and ghostwriting (fiction and non-fiction). EXCERPT FROM THE BOOK Philosophy: Who Needs It? is a collection of conceptually connected essays by the writer, Ayn Rand. The majority of the essays build upon each other, with the titular piece introducing the reader, in some of the broadest strokes possible, to the general outlines of Objectivism, Rand's somewhat systematic theory of reality, knowledge, morality, politics, and education. Because Rand often utilizes terms in fairly specific ways, it is helpful to consult The Ayn Rand Lexicon. Another reason to peruse the lexicon is because, although Rand uses terms in specific ways, she rarely distinguishes the same terminology used differently by the philosophers she references. As a result, her references may be misleading, if you do not have a working knowledge of her definitions. Book Description
This ambitious and lively book argues for a rehabilitation of the concept of 'human needs' as central to politics and political theory. Contemporary political philosophy has focused on issues of justice and welfare to the exclusion of the important issues of political participation, democratic sovereignty, and the satisfaction of human needs, and this has had a deleterious effect on political practice. Lawrence Hamilton develops a compelling positive conception of human needs: the evaluation of needs must be located within a more general analysis of institutions, but can in turn help to justify forms of coercive authority that are directed toward the transformation of political and social institutions and practices. His argument is animated throughout by provocative and original discussions of topics such as autonomy, recognition, rights, civil society, liberalism and democracy, and will interest a wide range of readers in political and social philosophy, political theory, law, development and policy.

Book Description
This book focuses on the domains of moral philosophy, political philosophy, and political theory within African philosophy. At the heart of the volume is a call to imagine African political philosophy as embodying a needs-based political vision. While discourses in African political philosophy have fixated on the normative framework of human rights law to articulate demands for social and global justice, this book charts a new frontier in African political thought by turning from ‘rights’ to ‘needs.’ The authors aim to re-orient discourses in African philosophy beyond the impasse of rights-based confrontations to shift the conversation toward needs as a cornerstone of African political theory.

Book Description
THE 25TH ANNIVERSARY EDITION—The definitive statement of Ayn Rand’s philosophy as interpreted by her best student and chosen heir. This brilliantly conceived and organized book is Dr. Leonard Peikoff’s classic text on the abstract principles and practical applications of Objectivism, based on his lecture series “The Philosophy of Objectivism.” Ayn Rand said of these lectures: “Until or unless I write a comprehensive treatise on my philosophy, Dr. Peikoff’s course is the only authorized presentation of the entire theoretical structure of Objectivism—that is, the only one that I know of my knowledge to be fully accurate.” In Objectivism, Peikoff covers every philosophic topic that Rand regarded as important—from certainty to money, from logic to art, from measurement to sex. Drawn from Rand’s published works as well as in-depth conversations between her and Peikoff, these chapters illuminate Objectivism—and its creator—with startling clarity. With Objectivism, the millions of readers who have been transformed by Atlas Shrugged and The Fountainhead will discover the full philosophical system underlying Ayn Rand’s work.
