Book Description
How would your life change if you really believed and could even feel that God is absolutely crazy about you? Steve McVey’s penetrating new look at the transforming power of God’s grace leads you to that change. Steve unpacks the biblical revelation of the Trinity as a loving relationship, and he highlights the goal of history: God intends to include us in that circle of love! Steve answers troubling questions that can keep you from fully sensing God’s love, acceptance, and forgiveness, such as… Why does God look like a bad cop in the Old Testament and a good cop in the New Testament? At Calvary, was the Father angry at the Son? Is He ever angry with me? Why do I sometimes feel separated from God, abandoned, guilty, and ashamed? Theologians have described the Trinity as perichoresis—a dance. Are you ready to be swept into the Father’s embrace?

He didn't call us to serve Him in our own feeble power, but to let His power flow through us--a power that is without limit! What's more, this power is already available to us right now. God has provided everything we need for a truly meaningful, joy-filled life here on earth...all because of His marvelous grace. Rest in God's grace, and let Him live through you. Book Description
A Moment in Time will encourage believers to entertain principles of grace-based theology and, after careful consideration, embrace them. When we're convinced of the gracious simplicity in acquiring the free gift of eternal life, it impacts how we share our faith. When we're confident this free gift can't be lost, it calms us down. When we're certain Christ will repay and recompense us for what we do with this free gift, we're motivated to "be holy" as He is holy. In looking at the biblical text, Christians will be reminded that justification is provided at no cost to them. They'll see there's room for failure in the Christian life. But they'll also learn where there's great grace, there's great accountability-and great reward. It is wonderful to see this fresh look at many of the grace issues at a popular level. Mark Spencer has given us an insightful look into the implications of grace in the task of evangelism and discipleship. Recommended reading!! -Dr. Joseph Dillow Mark Spencer has the wonderful ability to communicate deep biblical truths in an interesting and straightforward way. The reader will find a clear articulation of the grace message and convincing arguments against those who have corrupted it. I am glad to see this comprehensive and persuasive presentation of the gospel of grace and its implications. It will serve us well as we seek to share this message with the world. -Dr. Charlie Bing This is a book that needs to be taken seriously as a helpful guide to developing a strategic plan to be servants of Christ in our areas of influence. As Mark said, his last 25 years as a police officer went by overnight - so how fast will the years fly by in our lives? We all have a mission and an obligation to be useful to the Master. -Dr. John South

Narrative Hospitality in Late Victorian Fiction

Narrative Hospitality in Late Victorian Fiction PDF Author: Rachel Hollander

Book Description
Bringing together poststructuralist ethical theory with late Victorian debates about the morality of literature, this book reconsiders the ways in which novels engender an ethical orientation or response in their readers, explaining how the intersections of nation, family, and form in the late realist English novel produce a new ethics of hospitality. Hollander reads texts that both portray and enact a unique ethical orientation of welcoming the other, a narrative hospitality that combines the Victorians’ commitment to engaging with the real world with a more modern awareness of difference and the limits of knowledge. While classic nineteenth-century realism rests on a sympathy-based model of moral relations, novels by authors such as George Eliot, Thomas Hardy, and Olive Schreiner present instead an ethical recognition of the distance between self and other. Opening themselves to the other in their very structure and narrative form, the visited texts both represent and theorize the ethics of hospitality, anticipating twentieth-century philosophy’s recognition of the limits of sympathy. As colonial conflicts, nationalist anxiety, and the intensification of the "woman question" became dominant cultural concerns in the 1870s and 80s, the problem of self and other, known and unknown, began to saturate and define the representation of home in the English novel. This book argues that in the wake of an erosion of confidence in the ability to understand that which is unlike the self, a moral code founded on sympathy gave way to an ethics of hospitality, in which the concept of home shifts to acknowledge the permeability and vulnerability of not only domestic but also national spaces. Concluding with Virginia Woolf’s reexamination of the novel’s potential to educate the reader in negotiating relations of alterity in a more fully modernist moment, Hollanders suggest that the late Victorian novel embodies a unique and previously unrecognized ethical mode between Victorian realism and a post-World- War-I ethics of modernist form.
