Book Description
There are 27 million slaves living in the world today—more than at any time in history. Three hundred thousand of them are impoverished children in Haiti, who "stay with" families as unpaid and uneducated domestic workers, subject to physical, emotional, and sexual abuse. This practice, known locally as restavek ("staying with"), is so widespread that one in ten Haitian children is caught up in this form of slavery. Jean-Robert Cadet was a restavek in Haiti from the late 1950s until the early 1970s. He told the harrowing story of his youth in Restavec: From Haitian Slave Child to Middle-Class American—a landmark book that exposed ongoing child slavery in Haiti. Now in My Stone of Hope, Cadet continues his story from his early attempts to adjust to freedom in American society to his current life mission of eliminating child slavery through advocacy and education. As he recounts his own struggles to surmount the psychological wounds of slavery, Cadet puts a human face on the suffering that hundreds of thousands of Haitians still endure daily. He also builds a convincing case that child slavery is not just one among many problems that Haiti faces as the Western Hemisphere's poorest nation. Rather, he argues that the systematic abuse of so many of its children is Haiti's fundamental problem, because it creates damaged adults who seem incapable of governing the country justly or managing its economy productively. For everyone concerned about the fate of Haiti, the welfare of children, and the freedom of people around the globe, My Stone of Hope sounds an irresistible call to action.

Book Description
In his book Hope Town: Reality of a Dream Richard L. Seaberg explores through a fictitious story, historical facts and his own ink drawings the architectural development of a special place called Hope Town in the Bahamas. In Part 1 of the book Sarah and The Goat, the reader is brought back to the late 1700s when the Islands of the Bahamas were first settled by Loyalists and relives a way of life that may even be similar to our present day. In Part 2 of the book, Older Houses of Hope Town, the dreams of building a new life are connected with the building of houses that created a community appropriately named Hope Town. The Reality of a Dream has been realized by many in search of a new life in Hope Town from the time it was originally settled until the present. "The tropical setting of swaying palm trees and inspiring blue green waters is like living on the untouched edge of the world." Richard L. Seaberg

Book Description
This book by Dr. Christensen is a Trilogy of his earlier books on those same three topics. FAITH: I suspect we all go through life wondering, what is faith? From the time we are just infants we have to believe for and have faith for all sorts of things. Will mother remember to feed me? Will I get picked up out of my crib today? To all sorts of things from that moment on. As we get instruction about God and our relationship with God, we then get to be a bit like the original disciples who made the statement to Jesus about increasing our faith. In Romans 10:8 we see the statement, "The word is nigh thee, even in thy mouth, and in thy heart: that is the word of faith that we preach." But what is faith? In talking about it in the spiritual or religious realm, we are talking about having faith in God. If we say we have faith in God, are we really saying we can lay our lives down for God? To have complete faith in what he says, he will do? Total dependence on God just as when we were babies, we had total dependence on our mothers or fathers. So, now, if we have confessed Jesus as our Lord and Savior, are we willing to be obedient to His every command? Is that where faith begins? HOPE: Our hope is in fervently and completely trusting our Lord. In the 3rd Psalm, King David is fleeing from Absalom, his son who is out to slay him. Now, that is one serious circumstance which I am sure all of us can agree would cause discouragement and despair. David makes a number of statements in that Psalm which can give us hope, when it seems there is no hope. LOVE: The Bible has a great deal to say about Love and if we were to review the message and ministry of Jesus Christ, we would find the central theme has to do with love. It basically has to do with loving God and then loving your neighbor as yourself. Sounds easy doesn't? But it will likely take your whole life in your attempt to fulfill that command of the Lord.

Book Description
The book looks into the lives of the Bible characters Ruth, Naomi (her mother-in-law), and Boaz (Ruth’s future husband), as they overcome challenging situations and struggle not to allow their hidden hopes and dreams to die without trying to achieve them. The characters purposefully searched for conditions of hope in things they saw, heard about, or perceived to have potential of being beneficial and by accepting wise advice and kindness from other people. The book is encouraging for anyone struggling with situations in life that leave them feeling discouraged and forces them to search for conditions of hope and ways to make their hopes and dreams come true by becoming proactive and working on a plan of action. Their story is also about relationships, in the natural and spiritual sense, as demonstrated by the connection between them and a kinsman-redeemer who serves to make another person’s life restored and complete. As one reads through the book, he or she gains a sense that more than simply human effort was at work, but it was the hand of God orchestrating every detailed move, and as a result, each character realized and accredited it all to God as being their kinsman-redeemer. Although Boaz assisted in helping Ruth’s family overcome challenges, it was leading them to find a relationship with the true kinsman-redeemer, Jesus the Messiah. So the questions for the reader are: What is preventing you to Dare to Dream? Why not search for conditions of hope in your situation and make every attempt to fulfill them, because without trying, your hopes and dreams will die? Everyone has hopes and dreams that they hold in their minds and keep silently to themselves. Therefore, when people apply themselves, it becomes possible to move forward to experience at least four types of dreams, such as addressed in the chapters: “Shattered Dreams,” “Working the Dream,” “Rebirth of a Dream,” and “Fulfilled Dreams.”
