Book Description
"Theology is a place and a story. Theology is the place and story you think of when you ask yourself about the meaning of your life, of the world, and the possibility of God." So begins Serene Jones's epic work of raw truth, fierce love, and spiritual teaching as muscular as the fractured soul of this century demands. From her abiding Oklahoma roots to her historic leadership of a legendary New York seminary, her story illuminates the deep fault lines of this age--and points beyond them. With a voice that is at once frank and poetic, humble and prophetic, intimate and practical, Jones makes complex teachings around hatred, forgiveness, mercy, justice, death, sin, and grace understandable and immediately applicable for modern people. Excavating the wisdom of great theological voices--Soren Kierkegaard, Reinhold Niebuhr, John Calvin, James Baldwin, James Cone, Luce Irigaray, Saint Teresa of Avila--she brings them to life with an intimacy and vividness that illumines our lives and our culture now. At the same time, and with great beauty, Call It Grace reveals Serene Jones as a towering voice of a new, and urgently necessary, public theology for this century.

Book Description
Christians confess that God calls people to salvation. Reformed Christians, in particular, believe this is an effectual calling, meaning that God sovereignly brings about salvation apart from human works. But in what sense does God actually 'call' us? Does a doctrine of effectual calling turn people into machines that lack any personal agency? In this lucidly written and carefully researched study, Jonathan Hoglund provides a constructive treatment of effectual calling that respects both the Reformed tradition and non-Reformed critiques, while subjecting the doctrine to a fresh reading of Scripture with special attention given to the letters of Paul. Hoglund interprets divine calling to salvation as an act of triune rhetoric, in which Father, Son, and Holy Spirit work in a personal way to communicate new life. By bringing together theological exegesis, rhetorical theory, dogmatic reflection, and historical inquiry, Called by Triune Grace proves to be a feast—not only for the mind, but also for the spirit. Studies in Christian Doctrine and Scripture, edited by Daniel J. Treier and Kevin J. Vanhoozer, promotes evangelical contributions to systematic theology, seeking fresh understanding of Christian doctrine through creatively faithful engagement with Scripture in dialogue with church.

Book Description
Explore this stunning quality of God’s grace: It never ends! In this revision of a foundational work, John Piper reveals how grace is not only God’s undeserved gift to us in the past, but also God’s power to make good happen for us today, tomorrow, and forever. True life for the follower of Jesus really is a moment-by-moment trust that God is dependable and fulfills his promises. This is living by faith in future grace, which provides God's mercy, provision, and wisdom—everything we need—to accomplish his good plans for us. In Future Grace, chapter by chapter—one for each day of the month—Piper reveals how cherishing the promises of God helps break the power of persistent sin issues like anxiety, despondency, greed, lust, bitterness, impatience, pride, misplaced shame, and more. Ultimate joy, peace, and hope in life and death are found in a confident, continual awareness of the reality of future grace.

Book Description
Salvation cannot be earned. It is the free gift of grace from God through Christ. There is a great pressure release for Christians when they finally understand it's not about performance. Interestingly, though, we also know that 1 John 5:3 says, "In fact, this is love for God: to keep His commands. And His commands are not burdensome ... " It is noteworthy that this verse points out that obedience is one of the principal ways to show love for God. So, to obey is to love. That truth changes everything because in the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus says outrageous things about how He expects disciples to act and obey. He says impossible things like, "be perfect as your heavenly Father is perfect" and "love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you." So what is to be done with those verses? Too often, the page is just turned to something that feels more comfortable. But why did Jesus say these things unless He meant them? Maybe He expects uncommonly committed obedience? Maybe if the Spirit is allowed to work, that power to obey on a different level can be unlocked. The Call of Grace considers what it would look like if the words of Jesus's greatest sermon were taken to heart and the Holy Spirit was allowed to grow in us an obedience never known before. Certainly we will never be perfect, but when God looks at sinful people and sees the blood of Jesus, the perfection of Christ takes their place. And when He looks at them, perhaps He sees children who long to obey out of love for Him. The Call of Grace calls for consideration of what it means to obey wildly and out of sincere thankfulness for grace. For this is love for God.
