Excerpt from A Commentary on the New Testament, Vol. 1 To a friend who happened in one morning while Dr. Weiss was writing upon this book and who remarked, "You seem tireless in your work upon the New Testament," he replied, "The Church has a right to expect much from my years of study and teaching." The expectation of the Church has not been disappointed. Especially are such works as this and his "Religion of the New Testament" large satisfactions of that expectation, in that they, in a way, sum up and embody all the results of many years of painstaking and successful study. There is no department of New Testament study which Dr. Weiss has not made debtor to him. It is safe to say that no man has in his day exerted a wider influence toward a sound, careful, fruitful study of the Scriptures than he.
