Book Description
An essential document of the Black Panther Party written by three leading thinkers and party activists who were jailed following the FBI'S 1969 mandate to destroy the organization "by any means possible." Still Black, Still Strong is partly based upon the 1989 videotape Framing The Panthers by producers Chris Bratton and Annie Goldson. It recounts the stories of Dhoruba Bin Wahad, Mumia Abu-Jamal and Assata Shakur, all of whom were arrested and jailed during the COINTELPRO probe of the Black Panther Party. Dhoruba Bin Wahad, who organized chapters of the Black Panther Party in New York and along the Estern Seaboard and worked with tenants in Harlem and on drug rehabilitation in the Bronx, was accused of murdering two officers while still in his teens and imprisoned for 19 years. He always maintained his innocence and won his freedom by forcing the FBI to release thousands of classified documents proving that he had been framed. The justice department eventually rescinded Bin Wahad’s conviction and he was released in 1990, seven months after the documentary premiered. Mumia Abu-Jamal, a journalist who headed the Black Panther free breakfast program for inner-city school children in Philadelphia, was also accused of the murder of an officer and sent on death-row, where he still is today. Assata Shakur was a college educated social worker in her twenties when she was accused of shooting a cop, then arrested and tortured and denied medical treatment. Her interview was conducted in Cuba where she has been exiled since her escape from a New Jersey women's prison in 1975. Bin Wahad, Shakur and Abu-Jamal offer a little-known history and an incisive analysis of the Black Panthers' original goals, which the U.S. Government has tried to distort and suppress. As one confidential, 1969, memo to J. Edgar Hoover put it, "The Negro youth and moderates must be made to understand that if they succumb to revolutionary teaching, they will be dead revolutionaries."

Book Description
Since rising out of the New York City streets over 25 years ago, Russell Simmons has helped create such groundbreaking ventures as Def Jam Records, Phat Farm and Def Comedy Jam, becoming known the world over as "The CEO of Hip Hop." He credits his success to his belief in a set of 12 laws, which he shares in this book. His path towards success can be followed by anyone struggling to realize their dreams. Indeed, those solely looking to build up their bank accounts at the expense of personal integrity should look elsewhere. Blending business insight and spiritual inspiration, Russell believes that all success, professional or personal, comes from a connection with your higher self, and that it's impossible to receive any sort of lasting success from the world without giving something of lasting value to the world first: being a mentor and philanthropist is fundamental to success.--From publisher description.

Book Description
Jan-Ole Schiemann (*1983) belongs to a young artist generation, subjecting painting to a critical actualisation. On the fringes of figuration and abstraction, he extracts fragments of advertisement, comics, architecture from their original context. Almost transparently, he interweaves and layers structures, logos, topographies, graffiti, and everyday textures. This complex surface mesh, always full frontal, yet equally deep, dissolves the fabric of reality as a flashing, constantly renewed and self-generating hyper-text, into which one can actively immerse oneself or trace the origins of individual elements. Exhibition: Nino Mier Gallery, Los Angeles, USA (15.02.-13.03.2020).

Book Description
Edouard Baribeaud's (*1984) art is influenced by his bilingualism and bi-cultural background. The son of a French father and a German mother, he grew up in France, studied in Paris at the École Nationale supérieure des Arts Décoratifs, and has lived in Berlin since 2010. In his works he not only unites different styles, but also allows the everyday to meet the mythical, guiding archaic figures through modern surroundings, and combining actual experiences with imaginary memories. Baribeaud proves that he is a brilliant craftsman and storyteller who draws us into fantastical scenes that fluctuate between East and West.Baribeaud's first monograph presents the following groups of works: The Hour of the Gods (2014-2015), The Nocturnal Vault (2015-2017), and An Old Story for Our Modern Times (2018), along with the artist's Hermès scarf (2016), accompanied by essays by Imran Ali Khan, Pay Matthis Karstens, and Sabine Thümmler.EXHIBITION:Galerie Judin, Berlin28.4.-9.6.2018
