Cleveland Reads coordinates and strengthens literacy efforts in response to local literacy organizations, which encompass after-school programs for youth, basic skills and GED for adults, and English as a Second Language for immigrants, have a common goal: they are organized and directed by individuals working towards a more literate society.

Literacy organizations desired a process to come together in order to address common interests and problems, to effectively respond to new challenges, and to strengthen their service delivery.  As a result, Cleveland Reads formed the Literacy Network (Lit Net) to focus on the enhancement of programming and services and encourage partnerships and collaborations through quarterly meetings.

One of the many benefits for Lit Net members is to advise and make recommendations to Cleveland Reads' Board and the Cleveland Reads staff as representatives who serve on Cleveland Reads' Board of Trustees.  Furthermore, literacy staff is afforded many opportunities for accessing the latest literacy materials and keeping skills sharp through best practices and training opportunities. (See Lit Net Benefits for the list of additional benefits.)

All members are listed in Cleveland Reads "Directory of Literacy Services in Greater Cleveland," an invaluable publication updated yearly that identifies member sites, types of available programs, and population served.  The Directory, which is free to Lit Net members, is also available to public institutions and agencies, and associate organizations.

Cleveland Reads sees the Literacy Network as a valuable resource for a higher level of networking, strategic alliance, and new partnerships

Directory of Literacy Services for Greater Cleveland

Each year Cleveland Reads reaches out to and researches Greater Cleveland's literacy programs to obtain up-to-date information, which is used to publish a directory of local literacy services. The directory is intended to help service providers, agency, organizational, and institutional personnel refer potential learners and volunteers to the programs that best meet their needs and educational level. Furthermore, the directory facilitates networking and resource sharing among providers.
